Learn to keep your bike in tip-top shape with this FREE class from the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library , South Branch Library and BikeWalkKC! Our trained bike mechanic will teach you how to keep your bike in good working order with a few basic tools and some practical know-how. This class will be offered in English and Spanish.

¡Aprenda como mantener su propia bicicleta en esta clase GRATIS de la Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, bilioteca sucursal Sur y BikeWalkKC! Nuestro mécanico cualificado le va a enseñar cómo mantener su bicicleta en buen estado de funcionamiento con unas pocas herramientas básicas y algunos conocimientos práticos. Esta clase se oferecerá en inglés y español.

This past week at our very first 3rd District Transportation Townhall, we came away with several exciting ideas to make the infrastructure in the 3rd best serve the needs of the people.

Residents and neighborhood leaders brainstormed things like improvements to the PIAC process, public education campaigns, neighborhood coalition-building, and methods to get city staff in rooms with community members more often (shoutout to Lead Mobility Planner Regan Tokos for attending!).

Stay tuned for how we turn this energetic discussion into action!

Tuesday May 26 📆 Youth Learn-to-Ride Class! This one is for the kiddos ages 5-17 years old. Our expert instructors are relaxed and encouraging, and they will teach students how to balance, start, steer, and stop their bike. We'll also talk proper helmet fit and adjustment.

Don't have a bike or a helmet? No worries, we have bikes and helmets you can borrow to use in the class!

Read all about how a BikeWalkKC pedestrian safety class at TA Edison Elementary School inspired a student to ask Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS Mayor Watson for sidewalks in KCK... and got a whole neighborhood organizing for safer streets!

TONIGHT May 20 📆 Join the Ride of Silence with Major Taylor Cycling Club of Kansas City. Ride in a slow, silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Over 100 bicyclists have been killed in the Kansas City area. The Kansas City ride will honor those and other bicyclists.

The group will read the names of those who lost their lives or were injured while riding their bicycles during a brief ceremony, followed by ride protocol, safety instructions, and the ride.

Ride Info: 6.5 miles starting at 7:00 p.m. to about 7:45 p.m. The ride will not exceed 12 mph. Participants of all abilities are invited to join this memorial event.

Parking note: Please do not park in HJ’s lot as there may be other activities there. There is parking east of the trolley trail near the start, or in the neighborhood.
