We're so grateful to Melinda Henneberger for this beautiful piece on Sister Rose and Sister Fran, and to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Louis Province for sharing it.

"In 'Nun Girl Summer,' a thank-you note to the sisters of Journey House 'I wouldn't have made it,'" tells the story of two compassionate women who helped build Journey to New Life from the ground up. Sister Rose co-founded JTNL in 2013. Sister Fran lived and volunteered alongside the women in our residences. They showed up, they cared, and they changed lives.

Catherine, a former resident, put it simply: "I wouldn't have made it if it hadn't been for them."

We're honored to carry their legacy forward.

We are so grateful for Lexi!

This month, Lexi completed her year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, serving as a Case Manager & Reentry Specialist at Journey to New Life. We are thrilled to share that she's staying on as a full-time Reentry Case Manager with our team!

Lexi showed up every single day with humility, compassion, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. She walked alongside clients through some of their hardest moments, built trust, and made a real difference in the lives of men and women coming home from incarceration.

The Jesuit Volunteer Corps has had a long and meaningful history of placements at JTNL, and Lexi carried that legacy forward with grace and strength. She came to us rooted in her Jesuit education at Fordham University — with a dedication to being a woman for and with others, and walking in solidarity with those who are disadvantaged and suffering.

She did exactly that.

We are so excited to have Lexi officially on our team as she continues this work. She's one of the many reasons we believe in the power of compassionate service and showing up for people when they need it most.

Welcome to the team, Lexi — officially. We're so glad you're staying!

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming students from Research College of Nursing to our main office! 🩺💚

They rolled up their sleeves and got to work sorting through clothing donations — helping us keep our clothing closet organized and dignified for the men and women we serve. But they didn't stop there! They also offered blood pressure checks to our clients, turning a practical task into a meaningful moment of care.

It's a beautiful example of what happens when community partners show up with both hands and hearts. These future nurses got to see firsthand the people behind the statistics — and our clients got to experience the kind of holistic care that reminds them they matter.

Thank you to the Research College of Nursing students and faculty for spending your time with us. We're so grateful for your service and your compassion!

Shoutout to Chelsea, one of our peer support interns, for leading a fantastic group night on Sunday! 👏

The evening started with dinner at the park, followed by a water balloon toss, and then just hanging out — laughing, connecting, and building community. It was her first time leading a group on her own, and she knocked it out of the park.

Everyone was engaged, respectful, and had a great time. Nights like these remind us that healing happens in community. 💚

We're so proud of you, Chelsea. Can't wait to see what you plan next!

We're running low on the basics and we need your help!

At our main office on Troost, we serve over 1,200 individuals a year coming home from incarceration. Eighty percent of them are men. Right now, our shelves are running low on the things they need most.

What we need at our main office:
-Men's clothing — jeans, gym shorts, t-shirts, belts, and sneakers
-Wallets
-Bedding and towels
-Backpacks

And at our residences, we're running low too.

Last year, we served 91 women in our two residential recovery homes, Journey House and Peace House. Right now, we have a new group of residents working hard to rebuild their lives — and they need:
-Towels and wash cloths
-Laundry baskets
-Shower caddies
-Hygiene items
-Laundry soap
-Cleaning supplies

Drop off at 3120 Troost Ave during business hours. Every donation helps someone walk into a job interview, settle into a new home, or simply feel like they matter!

What a gift it was to see our community show up for our "Stronger Healing Through Hope" mural on Sunday! 🎨

Volunteers, clients, and residents came together — shoulder to shoulder, paintbrush to paintbrush — to transform the wall at 3120 Troost. Some of you were experienced artists. Many of you had never picked up a paintbrush before. All of you were welcome.

Our Paint by Numbers approach meant that anyone could participate. No skill required. Just a willingness to be part of something bigger than yourself. And that's exactly what happened. People from all over Kansas City stood together, painting a wall that our clients will walk past every day.

The design, created by artists Danny "Dan Matic" Staton and Chris Oldham, is a message of resilience, care, and collective support. And now it's a reminder that this community believes in healing, hope, and second chances.

We can't wait to show you the finished result. In the meantime, thank you to everyone who showed up — from our own residents and clients to neighbors and volunteers who came out on a Sunday afternoon to make something beautiful possible!
