To provide education on the talent of these animals and the amazing bond they have with their partners. AngelPaws’ acts as a resource to the community providing information/referral services to anyone who chooses to obtain an assistance dog. AngelPaws’ will provide a list of assistance dog schools which are Assistance Dogs International (ADI) certified and fit your specific needs. Assistance Dogs
are often the lifeline to an individual’s independence both at home and in the community. Assistance Dogs help their person by guiding around obstacles, crossing the street, retrieving dropped items, helping open and close doors, alerting to various medical needs and assisting with transfers. One, now retired, assistance dog accompanied her person on flights to San Diego, CA; Washington, D.C and numerous flights to and from Saint Louis, MO. On these trips, she would assist with transfer to the isle chair from her person’s power chair, in and out of bed; retrieving dropped items, and opening doors which were equipped with automatic buttons. She has been to Jeff City, MO with her person to testify before senate committees and to visit with senators and representatives personally. Before going totally blind, she got me through my time at the University of Kansas. This dog even has an honorary Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree. Boo is the inspiration behind AngelPaws. This amazing creature provided me with the independence I did not know I needed or even could have. It is for this reason that AngelPaws was born. I want others to come to know the impact these dogs can and do have on an individual’s life and they are working dogs that deserve respect, not pets.
