Congratulations to Ryley Allen, one of two recipients of the 2026 4-H Leader’s Association Scholarship! 🎉

Ryley has been part of Kalkaska County 4-H and plans to continue her education in the nursing field.

During her time in 4-H, she’s been involved in the livestock program—raising and showing swine and poultry—and has quickly built strong skills in responsibility, teamwork, and leadership. She’s also stepped up to help younger members learn the ropes, sharing her knowledge and setting a great example.

Ryley shared, “Just because things are hard does not allow you to give up… it doesn’t mean it’s a failure.” That mindset shows in everything she does—from 4-H to her work in the medical field.

Ryley’s drive, resilience, and passion for helping others make her a great choice for this scholarship. Way to go, Ryley—you make Kalkaska County 4-H proud! 💚

Question – “I have loamy dirt and need to know what grass seed or blend is best, in full sun (without annual rye or tall fescue).”

Answer – Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, tall fescue and fine fescue are cool-season turf grasses commonly used in Michigan. Without irrigation, cool-season turf grasses may become dormant during periods of hot or dry weather in the summer.

Congratulations to Myah Little, recipient of the 2026 4-H Leader’s Association Scholarship!

Myah has been an active member of Kalkaska County 4-H for the past 11 years and will be attending Grand Rapids Community College this fall.

Her 4-H journey began as a Cloverbud with her very first rabbit, Vader, sparking a passion for animal care that continues today. Over the years, Myah has raised and shown rabbits, turkeys, goats, and pigs, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow.

Throughout her time in 4-H, Myah has developed important life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem solving, while building confidence and stepping outside of her comfort zone. She shared that when she first started, she was “terrified to stand in front of a judge,” but through 4-H, she has grown into a more confident and capable leader.

Myah’s dedication to her projects, her willingness to help others, and her commitment to her community are just a few of the reasons she was selected for this scholarship. Well done, Myah—you make Kalkaska County 4-H proud!
