This guy left his teens in the rearview mirror this week!

We were so excited to celebrate Canon and his 20th birthday with his friends at SHINE. There was plenty of laughter, fun, and Cars quotes as we celebrated this special milestone together.

Happy 20th Birthday, Canon! We're thankful to celebrate with you and can't wait to see what this next year brings!

Summer evenings are meant for baseball! From the crack of the bat to ballpark snacks and plenty of laughter, it was a perfect night spent together enjoying one of the great traditions of a Midwest summer.

The SHINE crew had a great time joining their friends and cheering on the Joplin Jailbirds at Joe Becker Stadium!

Progress is happening at Glory Village, and we'd love for you to see it!

We've placed a picnic table at the entrance of the property as a place to sit, relax, eat lunch, and pray over Glory Village and all the lives that will be impacted there.

You'll find the campus at 3813 Creswell, just behind Gusano's Pizza. Whether you stay for a few minutes or a little longer, we'd love for you to visit, see the progress, and join us in praying for all that's to come.

Thank you for being part of the SHINE story.

We're excited to introduce another member of our Board of Directors! Each board member brings unique experiences, talents, and perspectives that help SHINE continue creating opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to live, work, and serve as members of the Kingdom of God.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know the people who are helping shape the future of SHINE. Stay tuned as we continue introducing the amazing individuals who serve on our board!

Ryan Collier – Freeman Health System

Ryan Collier serves as Director of Rehabilitation Services for Freeman Neosho, overseeing multiple rehabilitation programs and facilities while continuing to work directly with patients. His professional background is in physical therapy, and he has dedicated his career to helping individuals improve their independence and quality of life.

Ryan and his wife, Amy, have been married for more than 30 years and have two children, Lynae and Grant. Amy teaches fifth-grade language arts and social studies in Carthage. Lynae previously served at SHINE, and Grant works with students with special needs and will begin teaching physical education this fall.
Ryan is deeply committed to serving his community. He has been an elder at The Bridge Church in Carthage for more than 20 years, serves on the worship team, sits on the Neosho Lions Club Board, and currently serves as Vice President of the Carthage School Board.

Ryan’s connection to individuals with disabilities began early in life through his parents’ work at Sunshine Children’s Home. Through his daughter’s involvement with SHINE and his family’s volunteer service, he developed a deep appreciation for the organization’s mission. Ryan believes every person is uniquely created by God with gifts and talents to share, and he is grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside SHINE as part of a third generation of family involvement.

Member Monday - Meet Shyann.

Shyann may be small in stature, but she has a larger-than-life personality. She loves to take charge, blaze her own trail, and then make sure the rest of us are keeping up. A thoughtful and caring friend, Shyann enjoys trying new things and approaches each day with confidence, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

We are feeling especially thankful today.
Last night's storm left plenty of broken branches and debris around the SHINE workshop, but we are grateful to report there was no damage to our building!

We are also incredibly thankful for our friends at College Heights Christian Church . Before we even knew there was a need, plans were already being made to help with cleanup. What a blessing to be surrounded by people who care so deeply and are always ready to serve. We are grateful for your partnership and for the many ways you help SHINE thrive.

When the Community Action Ride System (CARS) needed a special gift for their volunteer drivers, our team got to work. Our friend, The Colorful Cookie, converted the CARS logo for our laser cutter. Then the SHINE members cut each piece, carefully painted every layer, learned to use tweezers to glue the tiny details, and assembled 50 custom vent clip fresheners.

These fun freshies will be given to CARS drivers as a small token of appreciation for the big impact they make. We know that impact personally—one of our SHINE members relies on CARS transportation to get to the workshop each week. The dedication of the CARS drivers helps make work, independence, and community connection possible for so many people across Southwest Missouri. We are grateful for community partners like CARS and Economic Security Corporation who create opportunities, remove barriers, and make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

A special thank you to Cavanaugh and our friends at Economic Security Corporation for trusting SHINE with this project. To learn more about CARS, visit: Community Action Ride System (CARS)

The footer has been poured for the new SHINE workshop at Glory Village, and the slabs are down for several of the residences. With every step forward, it's becoming easier to see the vision come to life—a safe, affordable community where adults with disabilities can live, work, and thrive together.

As exciting as the construction progress is, what made this week even more special was discovering who was helping make it happen. We were thrilled to find Michael, a former Thru the Roof friend, behind the wheel of the cement truck and pouring the concrete!

Thank you, Michael, and all of the hardworking men and women who are turning Becky's vision into a reality. Your work is building more than structures—it's building a community and changing the way Joplin sees people with disabilities.
