October is going out with a STRIKE!

Our members turned in their October Bowling Bingo fundraising money today, and the team that brought in the most got to choose someone to receive a pie in the face! And the lucky winner? SAM! Let’s just say the competition was fierce, and the victory was sweet… for everyone except Sam!

We celebrated the end of our October fundraising campaign with a fun Halloween party complete with costumes, pizza, a movie, and plenty of games. Of course, we mixed in a little work with our play as we packed swag bags for tomorrow’s big bowling tournament!

And speaking of bowling… WE’RE NOT DONE YET!

Who knew food could be ART? We had so much fun learning the art of charcuterie at SHINE last week!

Did you know you can turn a slice of meat into a beautiful ribbon? Or that blueberry cheese is PURPLE? We discovered that creating a beautiful charcuterie board takes more than just delicious food. Texture, color, placement, and a little whimsy all play a part!

We got to experiment, create, arrange, and, of course, enjoy some tasty treats along the way. Now we have a few new tricks up our sleeves, and we’re ready for our next big party!

At SHINE, we love finding new ways to learn practical skills, explore creativity, and have fun together. Who knew learning could be so delicious?

Hey, shout out to Whitney! She is a SHINE board member and doing great things in the community.

Leaving a job you love can be one of the hardest steps in your career. Whitney took that step a year ago, moving into an entirely different industry to pursue new opportunities for growth.

Now an Associate Program Manager | Defense at EaglePicher, she credits the strong women around her with helping her embrace the change.

“I relied heavily on the strong women around me who have either made the same decision or wished they had and encouraged me every step of the way.”
That experience reflects something Whitney has learned throughout her career: reach out to women you admire. Ask the question. Start the conversation. Give those connections a chance to grow.

For her, that meant seeking guidance from a councilwoman, a professor, and a business owner whose paths inspired her. Those conversations became a growing circle of support, and today, she shares what she’s learned with younger women finding their own way.

Whitney’s story reminds us that being BOLD can mean leaving somewhere you’re comfortable, opening yourself to a different perspective, and letting other women help you grow.

We’re counting down to a sold-out BOLD Women’s Summit on November 10, where stories like Whitney’s remind us of the power of women supporting women.

The weather this week is perfect for open windows and cool cross breezes! But if you’ve lived in Missouri for any length of time, you know those temperatures can change in a hurry. One day the air conditioning is running, and the next you’re reaching for the heat!

Here at the Glory Village campus, we’re hard at work preparing for all that Missouri weather has in store. Reliable HVAC systems are being installed to help make these spaces comfortable, safe, and ready for the people who will fill them with purpose and community.

We’re grateful for everyone helping bring this vision to life. There’s still work to do, but little by little, Glory Village is taking shape!

Member Monday: Meet Kyle!

Kyle brings curiosity, enthusiasm, and a watchful eye to our SHINE family! If you love cars, you’ll want to spend some time with Kyle. Show him a vehicle, and he can tell you all about it! He’s our resident car expert, and he loves sharing what he knows.

Kyle also likes to keep up with everything happening around the workshop. He’s always curious about what the staff are doing and makes sure we’re all staying on task. Let’s just say he helps keep us on our toes!

Another thing Kyle loves is our exercise program. He enjoys staying active and doing his part to keep healthy.

We’re so thankful Kyle is part of SHINE. His curiosity, love of cars, and enthusiasm for staying healthy make him a special part of our family. We’re glad you’re here, Kyle!

Fridays in October are for celebrating!

This month, our SHINE members are joining the development team to raise money for SHINE! Each member has a bowling card, and for every $50 they raise, they earn a strike on their card. Our goal is to help our members "bowl" a perfect game while raising funds to support SHINE!

SHINE receives no federal or state funding. Tuition, sales from our members’ handmade products, and generous donations make our program possible.

ONE WEEK TO GO! Let’s Bowl for SHINE!

We are getting SO excited for our SHINE Bowl-a-Thon on October 31 from 11 AM–1 PM at 3G Bowling in Carthage!

SHINE members, staff, board members, and community partners will be coming together for a couple of hours of bowling, laughter, and fundraising for a cause we love. It’s going to be a great time, and we want YOU to be part of it!

It's beginning to look more and more like home at Glory Village!

As you walk through the gate, one of the first things you'll find is a turquoise-blue picnic table. It's a place where we encourage people to sit, pray over the campus, and dream about a future for Joplin filled with opportunities and accessibility for people with disabilities.

Recently, someone left a note on the table: "Anything is possible."

We watch closely as the campus takes shape. Every week brings visible progress. We work hard, we dream big, and we stand amazed, acknowledging that there is no way our efforts alone are enough. Our dreams are God-sized, and we believe He is making a way for them to become reality.

The houses now have roofs and siding, plumbing and wiring. Each has been assigned its future residents. We find ourselves talking about Michelle's house or James' place as if they're already home.

We talk about the workshop and the community kitchen as if they're ready to welcome people, too. We can already picture the meaningful work, shared meals, friendships, and opportunities that will fill these spaces.

There is still work to do, but the vision is becoming more tangible every day. Glory Village is beginning to look like home, and we are so excited about what God has in store for the future.

Anything is possible, because with God, all things are possible!
