St. Louis NAACP President Endorses Amendment #2

" *****na and racism have long been intertwined, dating back to the post-Prohibition era in the 1930s when the country’s first drug czar gained traction for his war on
ma*****na by invoking a fear of black people. In the 1970s, President Richard Nixon’s war on drugs targeted black people, as well as hippies. History is replete with how officials used cannabis prohibition to target and criminalize black and brown people and throw them in jail.

The is well aware of the frustration that the wealth being generated in the other
states where ma*****na is legal is not reaching people of color. The broader legalization of Medical Ma*****na in is a social justice issue, but only if it is linked to some
type of effort to make sure members of minority communities are able to participate in the cannabis industry as growers and sellers, not just workers. Amendment #2 and its
backers (New Approach Missouri) offers the best opportunity for such.

The impact and dangerous side effects of and painkillers are well documented and continually ruin lives in Missouri. Medical ma*****na is empirically proven as a safe and effective alternative to opioids and painkillers. But right now, doctors and patients aren’t allowed to consider this option when making a personal healthcare decision.

The broader use of Medical ma*****na as pharmacotherapy in Missouri is long overdue. It’s no secret that after reviewing the pertinent scientific data and applying the principle
of double effect, there is a proportionate reason for allowing physicians to prescribe medical ma*****na. Seriously ill patients have the right to effective therapies. To deny
patients access to such a therapy is to deny them dignity and respect as persons.

Amendment #2 represents a safe, responsible, and patient-centric way forward for Missouri to become the 31st state to allow medical ma*****na. Amendment #2 is about
putting health decisions back in the hands of patients and their doctors, allowing medical ma*****na use under the supervision and expertise of doctors, not government
bureaucrats."

Medical ma*****na saves lives. Vote on November 6th!

Yesterday there were “Don’t Punish Pain” rallies held across the nation. These people represent those patients who are suffering from some form of chronic and debilitating related illness, and who are being forcibly weaned, or completely taken off of their pain medication due to the hysteria sweeping our nation. Opioid deaths and opioid are serious issues, but at the same time, legitimate pain patients are being left without any treatment options as the push to decrease opioid prescriptions continues. These people are suffering and they have nowhere to turn.

Medical *****na not only can help treat pain symptoms, but it actually works well together with narcotic medications to reduce the amount and frequency of medication a patient needs to take to find effective relief and have a quality of life. *****na also helps treat opioid use disorder, can manage the symptoms of withdrawal, and can be used as a harm reduction tool.

In states with legal medical ma*****na, opioid overdose deaths have dropped by around 25%. Many other studies show that pain patients decrease their pain medication usage, and report higher functioning and better quality of life when they have safe and legal access to medical ma*****na.

patients and doctors deserve to have this treatment option available to them. Help make the 31st state to allow for doctors to recommend medical ma*****na to their patients by pledging to vote on November 6th.
