We are pleased to welcome former Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean as our Moderator at the NAACP Joplin Branch's discussion on the future of education July 31, 2025 6:00PM Joplin Public Library. With over 20 years of dedicated service as a community connector, business owner, and public servant, Melodee’s work has consistently focused on fostering growth, collaboration, and positive change. Join us as she shares her insights on how community leadership and partnership can shape the future of education and empower our youth.

Melodee has served over 14 years on Joplin’s city council, including as mayor during one of our city’s most critical recovery periods. Her collaborative work through Missouri Municipal League and National League of Cities centered around understanding the power of local, state and federal alignment to build stronger communities through policy and partnerships.

From entrepreneurship, non-profit fundraising and negotiations, to revitalizing neighborhoods and inspiring people to take action, Melodee’s work bridges leadership, strategy, and heart.

Whether serving on city council, presiding on boards, or in the classroom speaking to future leaders, her goal is the same: to connect people, inspire participation, and move communities forward, together.

She summarizes her work with this: I create impact by building relationships, finding solutions, and helping others move forward with purpose.
