The work of Rapha International began as the vision of native Cambodian Christian leaders. These Cambodian leaders had repeatedly witnessed girls disappearing from their villages to be sold and exploited. They had the desire and the will to combat for these children, but needed the structure, programming and funding to do this work. After visiting with religious and community leaders in Cambodia a

nd witnessing the nightmare of human trafficking first hand, Rapha's founders began to recruit experts and partners with a heart to combat child slavery. In 2003, Rapha International began their safe house program for children who had been rescued from slavery and sexual exploitation. After more than a decade of growth, Rapha International is now an international safe house program which has won the favor of the governments in the countries in which it works. It is an organization which practices excellence in the standards of caring for children who have been rescued from these traumatic situations. The Rapha International model is to find native people who are qualified and passionate about combating the issues of child slavery and sexual exploitation in their own countries, and equipping them to combat on behalf of these children. Rapha is a Hebrew word which means “healing.” And healing is the heartbeat of Rapha International.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER 🙏

Would you take a few minutes of your time to lift up the most vulnerable before the Lord?

"We lift up the victims
of human trafficking and ask for increased awareness in our communities.
May your light shine on
the dark corners where exploitation occurs.
May hearts be stirred

Recently, Rapha’s CEO, Stephanie Freed, and Chief Clinical Officer, Angie Brower, were invited to present our work for the Senior Professionals at Eckerd College, St Petersburg, Florida.

As several members of this group have ties to the thriving local arts community, they presented Rapha’s team with a beautiful piece of art titled “Alone, who will take care of me” by artist Lois A Long.

We can’t wait to exhibit this expression of support and encouragement at Rapha’s headquarters in Joplin, Missouri!

We are so grateful for these hard-working and helpful students for their service!

Joplin Area Catholic Schools devoted a school day to service in the community. Students and staff visited Rapha and helped organize the storage building. This is incredibly helpful to our team to have extra hands to multiple the work!

Since the beginning of 2026, Rapha staff in Cambodia have been working to support refugees displaced by the border crisis between Cambodia and Thailand. In partnership with our partners at International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES), Rapha’s staff distributed food, supplies, and baby formula to 500 families in January.

Now, our staff is undertaking a two-month project to support 375 refugee families staying at refugee camps nearby our campus in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We will supply food and medical supplies to families and provide training for parents on the impacts of trauma on children, preventing abuse, and coping with stress. The children will spend time with our staff learning Bible stories and engaging in play therapy activities.

Our hearts have broken for the families in Cambodia impacted by this crisis. Rapha International continues to receive new opportunities to serve vulnerable children and families and is grateful for the opportunity to partner with IDES in this effort. Together, we can protect this vulnerable community and make a difference for one child, one family, and one community at a time.
