Important Message from our Friends of Jenner Creek Committee:
Dear Community,
Along with best new yearβs wishes comes an urgent plea.
The Interior Department's new Five-Year Outer Continental Shelf offshore oil exploration and drilling program includes the entire California coast. It may seem like an empty threat; we have fought this more than once and have Marine Protected Areas and National Marine Sanctuaries near us that are supposed to be permanently protected, and laws and regulations against onshore support facilities. Unlikely as it seems, there is no choice but to stand up or lose what we have worked to accomplish. The safety and pristine beauty of our ocean environment is definitely at risk.
Find more information and submission guidelines at SaveMyCoast.org, a coalition of California counties and groups opposed to offshore drilling. Public comments are accepted through January 23. A short, personalized message is more effective than a prepared template.
EXAMPLE: I strongly oppose the proposal to expand offshore oil and gas drilling. It harms marine life through pollution, noise, and likely oil spills. It also threatens coastal economies that depend on clean water and healthy ecosystems for fishing and tourism. This is a time when we urgently need to transition away from fossil fuels. Please reject this plan and prioritize ocean protection and clean energy instead!

Peter Douglas, the former Executive Director of the CA Coastal Commission for 26 years and co-author of the 1976 CA Coastal Act, has given us our mantra: "The Coast is never saved. It is always being saved."
Thank you for your time and for spreading the word. This administration means businessβit is no time for complacency.
