What will we be talking about at the 2026 Capital City Housing Conference?

A lot.

This year's conference theme is "Turning Conversations Into Action", and along with giving attendees the first look at the new Housing Strategy, we've also assembled community leaders from across Jefferson City to discuss some of our community's most important housing and homelessness challenges.

šŸ  "Creating Housing Opportunities in Jefferson City"
Moderated by housing consultant Jeff Lubell, this panel will explore what it takes to create more housing in our community and the role that business, finance, real estate, local government, and downtown development all play in shaping Jefferson City's future.

Panelists include representatives from Central Bank, the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson City Area Board of REALTORSĀ®, City staff, and downtown businesses.

šŸ  "What We Learned About Homelessness"
Members of the Jefferson City's Task Force on Homelessness will share key findings, lessons learned, and recommendations from their 18-month study of homelessness in Jefferson City.

Panelists include Task Force Chair Scott Johnston, Claudia Young from the Missouri River Regional Library, Officer Hitt of the Jefferson City Police Department, and others. The discussion will be moderated by the Task Force's Vice-Chair Susan Cook.

šŸ  "Community Solutions in Action"
Hear from organizations actively working on housing and homelessness issues right here in Jefferson City. Representatives from CMCA, Transformational Housing, Salvation Army, Housing JC, Habitat for Humanity, local developers, and others will discuss current initiatives, future plans, and opportunities for community involvement.

If you've ever wondered:
• Why housing matters to our community
• What is being done about homelessness
• What local organizations are already doing
• How you can be part of the solution

This conference is for you.

Welp folks … we’ve had a setback. The Jefferson City Planning and Zoning commission voted to not recommend rezoning 107 Adams St. for a resource center and overnight shelter. This, even though the commission received three times more emails in support of the rezoning, and listened to speakers for over two hours support this effort, with only a small handful speaking against. ļæ¼

Gut punch. ļæ¼

- We’re not done yet! The final vote goes to the Jefferson City Council on August 3. We are regrouping a considering approaches between now and then. Stay tuned…

One thing you can for sure do is to reach out to your city council representative and share your thoughts and opinions on what needs to happen at this location. For those who live outside the city limits, talk to your friends inside. Ask them to contact the Council. You can also post on social media or write letters to the editor (see Ron Medin's excellent example in the News Tribune)

Community… this is serious. We know this is a sensitive topic with varying opinions. We also know many of you have been on the front line with us, in service to our unhoused guests.

We need your help.

The JC Planning and Zoning group is meeting Thursday evening at 5:15 pm in council chambers to discuss the zoning of our potential new shelter/resource center at 107 Adams Street.

You get it.

Many others don’t.

Or they don’t have the experience or exposure to it like we do. Let’s make sure our voices are heard in support of zoning the property on Adams Street so that we can expand our services and help some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Please come if you can and wear your shirt or royal blue. Let’s create the visual of support!!

If you can’t make it in person, you can also email [email protected] to express your support.

TOMORROW!!

Bring your garden hose and your cleaning gloves!

**Saturday, May 2 at 9:00 am**

It’s our annual clean up and pack away day where we will (you guessed it...) deep clean the Inn and pack everything away until next season. How long we go will depend on how much help we get! In the past, we've been done by 11 or 12. If you can only help for an hour, that's okay, too!

Things to bring:

We have cleaning supplies, but if you have a favorite, bring that with you.

We will also be changing out the tops on most of our cots. To do that, we will need a Phillips screwdriver and an 8mm socket.

If you have a water hose we can use, please bring it. Cleaning buckets are also helpful -- to hold soapy water, etc.

This isn't the most glamorous thing we do, but it's still necessary. And helps get us ready for next season!

- See you Saturday!

PS - bring a friend. 😊
