Jackson Theatre Guild

Jackson Theatre Guild For nearly 50 years, the Jackson Theatre Guild has been West Tennessee's source for quality performing arts. But we are more than just a group of artists.

Jackson Theatre Guild is a nonprofit community theatre dedicated to creating inspiring performances and providing opportunities for local artists and performers to grow and thrive. Our shows are affordable, professional, and - most importantly - fun! Chartered in 1964 as a 501(c)3 organization, the JTG was founded by a handful of theatre teachers, professors, and other performance enthusiasts who

answered an overwhelming public call for a local theatre group. Even though Jackson has always had a rich arts offering thanks in part to its local universities, the general public desired something more uplifting and entertaining than the sometimes more experimental productions of the college sector. Needless to say, the JTG answered the call and has been going strong ever since! Today, the Guild's volunteers quite literally represent every aspect of our talented community: students, business owners, factory workers; over 50, under 30, and everything in between; black, white, Hispanic. These are your everyday friends and neighbors, yet they give the same high-caliber performance that you would expect to see in a professional theatre company. We are a close-knit family, and we would love for you to be a part of it by coming to an audition, working backstage, joining our audience, or by becoming a member! A special camaraderie exists between our actors, the crew, and most importantly, the audience. We are excellence-driven, and we go to great lengths to make sure that the entire playgoing experience is something you'll never forget. You are the reason we're here!

Have you read The Da Vinci Code, watched the movie, both—or neither?

If you already know the story, you know how quickly one discovery leads to another and how difficult it becomes to stop until the mystery is solved.

If you don’t know it yet, imagine a murder inside the Louvre, a message left behind, a trail of hidden clues, and a secret some people would do anything to protect.

Now imagine it all unfolding live onstage.

Q: What did you know about Anastasia before this production, and has the show made you want to learn more?

A: I did not know much about the history, but after being cast for the show, I think it's very interesting, and I want to learn more about it.

Q: Which theme in Anastasia speaks to you most, and why?

A: Finding where you belong. It speaks to me most because everyone wants to feel accepted by and connected to people. This theme reminds me that even when we feel lost or a little out of place, we can eventually find the people who make us feel at home.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A: My dream trip is Paris! (France, not TN :)) I want to see the Eiffel Tower at night!

Q: Why is Guild Jr.’s Pay What You Can mission important to you?

A: It's important to me because it allows everyone to be able to see and experience the joy of live theater!

Q: What does being part of Guild Jr. mean to you?

A: It means I get to work with super talented and amazing people!

Q: What else would you like everyone to know?

A: I'm excited about my first show with Guild Jr.! I think it's going to be amazing, and I can't wait for everyone to see it!

The code has been cracked!

WKH WUXWK LV KLGGHQ LQ SODLQ VLJKW

translates to:

THE TRUTH IS HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT.

The message was written using a Caesar cipher, one of the simplest and oldest known encryption methods. Each letter in the original message was shifted three places forward in the alphabet. To solve it, you simply moved every letter three places backward.

For example:

W becomes T
K becomes H
H becomes E

Together, WKH becomes THE.

The cipher takes its name from Julius Caesar, who reportedly used a three-letter shift to conceal private and military communications. It would not protect many secrets today—but it makes a wonderful starting point for a mystery.

Hidden messages are only the beginning when The Da Vinci Code takes the stage September 17–20. Follow the clues, question everything, and see if you can uncover the truth before the characters do.

Q: What did you know about Anastasia before this production, and has the show made you want to learn more?

A: Anastasia has always been one of my favorite musicals—from the story to the dances to the incredible plot. I love it! I grew up watching the movie as a kid and had always mostly known the more Disney fairy-tale version of the story, but I love now being older and getting to dive into the story and experience it more!

Q: Which theme in Anastasia speaks to you most, and why?

A: I feel that, for me, finding where you belong has always been a struggle. I love how this story maybe isn't the most perfect happy ending. Anastasia gets what she spent her whole life imagining, but she has to choose the love of her life or finally belonging and having what she spent so long longing for. She's never known who she was, so she built up this role so much in her head, and she finally discovers she is Anastasia—but was it worth it? It just shows that wanting to be someone else may not always be what you actually need. You may find what you've been dreaming of by just being you, not a princess. Plus, your real family can be the friends you choose or, in Anastasia's case, the friends who chose you.

Q: If you could travel to any moment in history, where would you go?

A: I would love to go to the Renaissance era, where art was so prominent. People were living in such darkness and started to discover that creativity can help create light!

Q: Why is Guild Jr.’s Pay What You Can mission important to you?

A: Guild Jr.’s Pay What You Can mission is so important to me because theater is so important to me, and it's taught me so many important lessons onstage and off and has made me a better person. You shouldn't have to worry about financial stress to come see an amazing show, and there may be a lesson in that story that someone needed to hear. You could change someone's life with that story. So I love the Pay What You Can mission because anyone and everyone can enjoy the magic of theater!

Q: What does being part of Guild Jr. mean to you?

A: This is going to be my third Guild Jr. show, and I love how, with every single show, you gain a new family. If you ever wonder why people are crying onstage on closing nights, it's because within just a few weeks, you've bonded with these people so much that they have become a part of your family! Every single cast is a new family, and you never have to worry about sitting alone or not having anyone to talk to because you immediately will! Whether it's your first show ever or your 100th, you're instantly welcomed into the Guild family!

Q: What else would you like everyone to know?

A: If you are interested in theater at all, you should definitely try out for a Guild Jr. show. It's so welcoming—from full-time theater kids to first-timers, you are welcome! You learn so many important lessons you can use onstage and off! And the Kellys are absolutely incredible!

Alleigh Browand
Role: Ensemble

Q: What did you know about Anastasia before this production, and has the show made you want to learn more?

A: I honestly really didn't know much! I had watched the movie on Disney about Anastasia, but other than that…nothing. Being in Anastasia has encouraged me to learn more about it!

Q: Which theme in Anastasia speaks to you most, and why?

A: Choosing the people who become family. I have had a lot of people come into my life over the past 5 years. Some stayed; some didn't. But the ones who did stay are my everything. They are my favorite people in the world, and I am so blessed to call them my family!

Q: If you could travel to any moment in history, where would you go?

A: I would want to visit Jerusalem in AD 30–33. I would want to walk with Jesus and learn directly from him!! I would hate this part…but I would watch Jesus die on the cross to save us. There are a bunch of other things that I would do…but I can't think of them all.

Q: Why is Guild Jr.’s Pay What You Can mission important to you?

A: I want people of all ages to be able to experience theatre! My family is going through a really tough financial time right now, and to know that my family only has to pay what they can to come and see me perform makes me so happy!

Q: What does being part of Guild Jr. mean to you?

A: I've never been in a Guild Jr. show before. But I've heard from my friends who have been in multiple shows how amazing Guild Jr. is. They made me want to experience it for myself. The people in this show are so incredibly amazing and talented, and they already mean so much to me. Guild Jr. means a lot to me because it brought me closer to people that I know but haven't really talked to and helped me meet new people!

Molly Newborn
Role: Lily

Q: What did you know about Anastasia before this production, and has the show made you want to learn more?

A: Before this production, I knew the basic story of Anastasia and the Romanov family, but I didn't know much about the real history behind it. Being part of the show has made me realize how much there is to learn, and it's made me want to understand the real people and events that inspired the story.

Q: Which theme in Anastasia speaks to you most, and why?

A: Finding where you belong speaks to me the most. I think growing up is a lot about discovering who you are and figuring out where you feel truly accepted. Sometimes family isn't only the people you're born into, but also the people who make you feel like you belong.

Q: If you could travel to any moment in history, where would you go?

A: I would travel to Paris during the time period of Anastasia. I would want to experience the city as it was then and see the world that Anya dreamed of finding. I think it would be amazing to step into a moment in history instead of only learning about it through a story.

Q: Why is Guild Jr.’s Pay What You Can mission important to you?

A: I think theater should be something everyone can experience, not something that depends on how much money someone has. The Pay What You Can mission allows more people to experience the joy, emotion, and connection that live theater can create.

Q: What does being part of Guild Jr. mean to you?

A: Being part of Guild Jr. means having a place where I can grow, challenge myself, and express myself through something I love. It has also given me people to learn from and memories that I know I'll carry with me long after the show is over.

Q: What else would you like everyone to know?

A: I'm incredibly grateful to have been part of Anastasia. This process has reminded me that theater is about more than performing—it's about telling stories that make people feel something. I'm especially thankful for the opportunity to play Lily and to be part of a cast and production that I'll remember for a long time.
