The Learning Web We are a non-profit organization in Tompkins County supporting youth and young adults as they find their place in the world.

The Learning Web has been working with Tompkins County youth since 1972, helping them make a successful transition from adolescence to adulthood. Assisting over 12,000 youth—3,500 of these homeless youth—our programs enable a diverse group of young people to participate in a range of services that include apprenticeships, employment and life skills training, as well as in a supervised housing pro

gram for homeless youth. Through these programs, our participants have developed valuable skills that support them as they find their place in today’s complex world. The Learning Web is a United Way agency

MEET THE 2026 LEARNING WEB APPRENTICES! (Part 5 of many)
Today, we are featuring a youth involved in an apprenticeship at Ithaca ReUse Center: Lamont from the Town of Caroline! We met Lamont at Ithaca High and have helped him with expanding his opportunities, one of which is a Learning Web apprenticeship. The Youth Exploration Program (YEP) is committed to providing barrier-free first-time job assistance and experiences. See what Lamont has to say about this experience.

A Learning Web apprenticeship is experience of your choosing which helps you explore a career path more in depth under the guidance of a skilled mentor. Apprenticeships can be paid or unpaid and can last up to 40 hours. We want to make our apprenticeships more accessible and visible to youth.

Thanks to the Joint Youth Commission, Legacy Foundation of Tompkins County, and the Tompkins County Youth Services Department, we were able to support youth with paid opportunities.

Last week, the Youth Exploration Program (YEP) and Life Skills collaborated to bring an event to the Learning Web called Tie Dye Fever! Youth (not all pictured) were encouraged to participate in different crafts as well as tie dying. We provided free food, craft supplies, and t-shirts for participants. We all had a blast and it was a beautiful day! 🌞🙌

The Youth Exploration and Life Skills Programs will be collaborating to host Tie Dye Fever (along with other fun crafts such as custom button making) at the Learning Web on August 5th from 2:00-4:00 PM. Food, drinks, and one shirt to tie dye per person will be provided. Feel free to bring your own items to dye—or make buttons and bracelets instead.

MEET THE 2026 LEARNING WEB APPRENTICES! (Part 4 of many)
Today, we are featuring a youth involved in an apprenticeship at Ithaca City School District (DeWitt Middle): Julia from the Town of Ithaca! Not only did Julia learn about teaching 6th grade and explore what she wants to get into, but she enjoyed it so much that she stayed for the rest of the school year--past the 40 hours of the apprenticeship!
