At Second Harvest Food Bank, our vision is an Orange County with food and nutritional security for all. In collaboration with our partners, we provide dignified, equitable and consistent access to nutritious food, creating a foundation for community health. Our partner network includes houses of worship, schools, after-school programs, colleges and universities, senior centers, shelters for the un
housed, soup kitchens and transitional housing facilities, with sites at 380 locations throughout the county. In fiscal year 2024-2025, we distributed 42.1 million pounds of food to an average of 459,000 (duplicated) community members in need each month. Approximately 20,000-40,000 pounds of produce is harvested each month at the 40-acre Harvest Solutions Farm located in Irvine and begun in August 2021. For more information, visit feedoc.org.

Fresh from our farms to Orange County tables! 🌱

At Founders Farm and Harvest Solutions Farm (a partnership with UC South Coast Research & Cooperative Extension of Orange County and Solutions for Urban Agriculture), our farm teams and volunteers work together to grow and harvest nutritious produce for community members across the county.

Once harvested, produce from our farms reaches community members in approximately 72 hours, helping provide fresh, nutritious food to local families.

Meet Chrislynn VanSkiver, our Chief Operating Officer.

With a tenure of more than 10 years at Second Harvest, Chrislynn has worked in development, volunteerism and operations. Now she oversees the movement of food through our Distribution Center and out to more than 300 partner locations across Orange County.

To her, getting the logistics right is about more than speed. It's about making sure community members get the food they need with dignity and choice.

In our latest Staff Spotlight, Chrislynn talks about leading through COVID, why "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast," and what most people don't realize about how a food bank works.

Second Harvest is looking for a Food Sourcing Coordinator: Grocery Rescue to help strengthen relationships with retail donors and support the programs that keep nutritious food moving throughout Orange County.

This role is a great fit for someone with grocery industry and relationship-building experience, strong communication and organizational skills and an interest in mission-driven work. Responsibilities include supporting retail donor relationships, conducting trainings and onboardings, monitoring program activities, completing store visits and managing monthly reporting and tracking.

Meet Malik Freeman, Workforce Development Program Supervisor at Second Harvest Food Bank.

Malik leads three programs, Workforce Development, College Corps and Cultivate, that give community members facing employment barriers, college students and high schoolers hands-on experience and a path into the workforce. His teams support more than 25% of Second Harvest's order-processing workload, and several participants have gone on to full-time roles at the Food Bank.
