Philharmonic Society of Orange County

Philharmonic Society of Orange County The Philharmonic Society is Orange County's third oldest arts organization and first music organization.

Founded in 1954 as Orange County’s first music organization, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County presents performances of the highest quality and provides free music education programs to enhance the lives of Orange County audiences through music. In 1954, a group of music lovers formed an orchestra with the intent to make, enjoy, and spread the love of classical music. Now, more than 60 yea

rs later, the orchestra has evolved into the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, no longer an orchestra but strictly a music presenter—and no less dedicated to its original mission. Each season, the Philharmonic Society brings the world's most acclaimed symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists and international artists to perform in Orange County. While predominantly known for our classical music presentations, we also present in the eclectic realm with world music and multi-disciplinary performances. The Philharmonic Society's nationally recognized Youth Music Education Programs, serving K-12 students, are offered free of charge to schools, students and parents, and each year reach 160,000 children, providing them with enriching musical experiences. The Committees of the Philharmonic Society are the Society's principal fund raising and volunteer force. 800 members strong, The Committees implement and evaluate the Society's music education programs and also present a wide variety of fundraising events, including Entertaining by Design, House of Design and the Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights®.

We’re honored to share that the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Jewish Federation of Orange County have been selected as inaugural Samueli Foundation OC+ Fund recipients!

We’re proud to be among 10 projects selected from 265 applications this year that are focused on bringing together complementary strengths, expertise, and relationships to collaborate in service of Orange County communities.

This grant will support a multi-year collaboration using music, education, and cultural experiences to launch a sustained, music-centered community engagement initiative that draws on the power of live classical music to strengthen Jewish identity, build multi-generational community connection, and expand cultural access across Orange County.

We’re grateful to the Samueli Foundation for believing in our work and investing in stronger, more resilient communities. 🧡💙

Five staff members are celebrating their work anniversaries this month! 🎉 Help us congratulate each lovely staff member:

➡️ Randy Polevoi, Musical Concierge - 30 years
The longest-serving staff member on the team, Randy has helped hundreds of Philharmonic Society subscribers curate their series. His favorite memory while working here was when we presented the Berlin Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic in the same season (2001-02).

➡️ Jean Hsu, COO & VP of Communications - 17 years
From intern to COO & VP of Communications, Jean's journey has grown right alongside the Philharmonic Society. One of her favorite memories is the Philharmonic Society's partnership with Carnegie Hall to bring its festival programming to the West Coast, celebrating Chinese and Japanese culture through landmark performances and community events.

➡️ Angelica Nicolas, Marketing & Patron Services Manager - 7 years
One of three members in our small but mighty Patron Services team, Angelica has helped innumerable guests acquire season tickets with a friendly smile and upbeat attitude. Angelica's favorite Philharmonic Society memory was watching Pacho Flores and members of the Minería Symphony Orchestra of Mexico improvise Paquito D'Rivera's Venezuelan Concerto.

➡️ Chloe McNeff, Education Associate & OCYS Coordinator - 4 years
A true full circle story, Chloe was a member of the Orange County Youth Symphony from 2012-2016 and now serves as the Orchestra's Coordinator! She leads the planning, operations, and administration of OCYS/E, overseeing weekly rehearsals, performances, future program planning, engagement activities with guest artists, and international performance tours.

➡️ Zach Edwards, Board Liaison and Development Coordinator - 2 years
Detailed and diligent, Zach is an integral reason for the success of our membership campaigns and events. One of his favorite memories was at the Concerts for 5th Grade luncheon when we brought a group of donors to join hundreds of 5th graders in the audience for an afternoon of music in the concert hall. The students' excitement was unlike anything he'd seen before!
