Wrapped up with more workshops and some Aim business. Awards, certifications, remarks from state leaders past & present, demonstrations and exhibits from municipal experts, election of 2027 officers, and even a pop up dog park! What a week! Thanks to all attendees for spending a few days learning and connecting with your peers.

We opened yesterday with a new video covering the everyday work municipal employees do keeping water clean, streets safe, roads plowed, parks open, and supporting police, fire, and first responders. We all know these same people handle this hard work on extraordinary days too, including the natural disasters that hit communities across Indiana in August. Thank you to all those who serve the people who call Indiana's cities and towns home.

Today we kicked off with a Board of Directors meeting where 2027 legislative priorities were discussed, the award of the 2026 Goldsmith Prize for Innovation in Local Government to Westfield, a talk with former Gov Holcomb & Mayor Dave Wood regarding our new partnership on youth civic engagement, several LIT/property tax/MUST discussions, a celebration of the work of city and town government, a podcast recording and a slew of workshops! Did we mention it was only Day #1?

Today, Governor Braun indicated he will urge the State Board of Finance to replace gas tax revenues to local units at their meeting on July 21. While Aim has always supported relief from extremely high gas prices for Hoosiers, we have also continually requested replacement of vital funding for road and street networks across Indiana. Governor Mike Braun has listened to our concerns and is striking a balance between relieving a financial burden for Indiana’s families and businesses and taking care of an investment as large and critical as our transportation assets and the people who maintain them. Please join Aim in thanking Governor Braun and legislative leaders who have been willing listeners and partners through throughout this process.

Thank you to the municipal officials, legislators, state leaders, and Aim partners for making the 2026 Aim Legislative Dinner a great success. Keynote Speaker Pete Yonkman was thought provoking in his remarks - urging lawmakers & local leaders to be innovative and diligent in planning for the future.
