Protecting the health and safety of our members remains a top priority for the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana and the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Indiana USAR Task Force #1 has been deployed as a Type 3 Team with 35 members and additional ground support for Hurricane Isaias. They are headed to Georgia where they will stage until given further orders, once the storm arrives.

We wish these highly trained fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics good health and safety on their deployment.

President Shannon Whiteley and the Executive Board of Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Local 416 would like to sincerely thank everyone who joined us for this year’s Reading of the Names Ceremony.

A special thank you to the Emerald Society for hosting the Retiree Breakfast and helping start the day with fellowship and camaraderie among our retired members.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Retired Captain Tim McDonnell, for his heartfelt remarks honoring our fallen brothers.

We were especially honored to welcome the Byerly family as we added their loved one’s name to the memorial. Their presence was a meaningful reminder of why we gather each year—to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to ensure their families know they will always be part of our fire service family.

To our active members, retirees, families, and community partners, thank you for standing together in remembrance.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy will forever live on.

DUTY. HONOR. SACRIFICE.
These are more than words displayed on the Indianapolis Firefighters Memorial. They represent the commitment every firefighter makes when taking the oath to serve our community.
On Wednesday, October 7 at 11:30 a.m., Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Local 416 will gather for our annual Reading of the Names Ceremony at the Indianapolis Firefighters Memorial, 748 Massachusetts Avenue.
We will pause to remember and honor the members of our Local who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our community.
Each name on that memorial represents far more than a firefighter. Each represents a family whose loved one never came home—a father, mother, son, daughter, spouse, friend, Brother or Sister.
While they may be gone, their stories remain. Their service is remembered. Their sacrifice lives on through their families, through the fire service, and through all of us who continue to carry their memory forward.
We invite our members, retirees, families, community leaders, and the public to stand with us as we read their names and reaffirm a promise that has been passed from one generation of firefighters to the next:
We will remember their service.
We will honor their families.
We will never forget their sacrifice.

On behalf of President Shannon Whiteley and the Executive Board of Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Local 416, we want to thank everyone who joined us in honoring the life and legacy of Brother Tommy Miller.

The tremendous turnout from our brothers and sisters across the fire service and organized labor was a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving firefighters and their families.

Thank you for standing together with the Miller family and with one another. This is what solidarity looks like, and this is what being Union is all about.

Rest easy, Brother Miller. Your legacy will continue through all of us.
