Today is World Hunger Day—a time to raise awareness about food insecurity and take action to support those in need.
At United Way of Indiana County, we see the impact of hunger right here in our community. Families are making difficult choices every day, and no one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.
That’s why we work alongside local partners to connect individuals and families with food resources and support systems that promote stability and well-being.
Together, we can make a difference—because when a community comes together, we can help ensure no one goes hungry.

Did you know help is just three numbers away?
211 is a free, confidential service that connects individuals and families to local resources for food, housing, utilities, mental health support, and more. Through United Way of Indiana County, this vital service helps meet real needs in our community every day. Across the country, 211 made over 19 million referrals in 2025, connecting people to essential services—and that number continues to grow as more families seek support.
The biggest needs?
• Housing assistance accounts for nearly 1 in 3 requests
• Food, utilities, and healthcare support remain among the top concerns
Right here in Indiana County, the need is real—over half of households are living paycheck to paycheck or in poverty, making services like 211 more critical than ever.
Whether it’s a moment of crisis or a need for everyday support, 211 is there—24/7—helping our neighbors find answers, resources, and hope.

We had an amazing time volunteering at Indiana County Community Action Program, Inc Food Bank during their senior distribution yesterday and today. This incredible service is offered every third Wednesday of the month, along with the Tuesday before, helping ensure local seniors have access to nutritious food and support.

Volunteering is such a rewarding experience, not only because of the impact it makes, but because of the connections and sense of community it creates along the way. A few hours of your time can truly make a difference in someone’s day. We encourage everyone to find a way to get involved, whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about programs like this that help our neighbors in need.

A big thank you to the United Way Student Leadership Team for spending part of their Saturday helping beautify the United Way office! Their hard work and creativity brought a special touch to the space with a charming little fairy garden for everyone to enjoy on their way in. We truly appreciate their time, teamwork, and community spirit!

Thank you to Marion Center FFA, Penns Manor FFA and to friends who pitch in materials and donations for this project.

Mental Health Awareness Month - May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind one another that mental health matters.
At United Way of Indiana County, we know that challenges like financial stress, housing instability, and access to care can all impact mental well-being. That’s why we support programs and services that connect individuals and families to the resources they need.
No one should have to face these challenges alone. Help is available, and hope is real.
Let’s continue to look out for one another, start conversations, and build a stronger, healthier community together.
