One of the fun parts of the harvest table, is introducing new foods and expanding people’s palettes. This week we had salad turnips. A Japanese variety that can be eaten raw on a salad like carrots or cooked or roasted. I made stir fry with the greens. Garlic, ginger, soy sauce and a bit of sesame oil. Delicious! We got comments like- ‘my Grandmother used to put turnips in soups’ or ‘ my son likes to try new things-
He’ll love this’. They are sweet and wonderfully bitter. We’ll have more at the next harvest table at the Chevy Chase Community Center. Tuesdays. 11-12:30 pm.

Bob Madden of Nature Works greenhouse is working diligently to install sliding doors to the hoophouse. Many students volunteers assisted him in this delicate task. See you at the Hoop House Open House on Saturday the 19th at 4:00pm at the ICG garden at Mack Park. Dedication to Tom Nowak and ribbon cutting then a community picnic. So bring a chair and a dish to share and have some fun!
