The Healing Feast of Ancestral Wisdom for Future Generations will truly be a celebration for all ages and generations. Join us at The Fledge in Lansing on Friday, October 30th to feast on delicious homemade tamales, build an ofrenda altar together, listen to healing stories and songs, draw our visions of connection with past, present, and future, dance and drum with delight and tenderness.

The longest fallow period yet of The Healing Feast is preparing us for a most transformative feast as we enter the threshold of the Day of the Dead. The veil is thin at this time of DĆ­a de los Mu***os in MĆ©xico and Samhain in European earth-based spirituality. This is the time when we embrace death, composting, remembrance, nostalgia, and curling into the darkness of winter's womb that will eventually birth us into a new year of growth life.

Yet for all these somber notes, it is a time of celebration, magic, playfulness, silliness, and joyful connection with both the living and the dead!

Join us on 10/30 in Lansing for a child- and family-friendly event that is designed to be a transformative, fulfilling experience for all ages. All are invited to bring your own memorabilia for our ofrenda altar as we celebrate DĆ­a de los Mu***os. These objects can represent departed loved ones, ancestors, or even plant and animal allies and other parts of creation that you wish to remember and honor.

Our feast will feature these powerful guides and nourishing experiences:

šŸŖ¬ Bryana Clover, a decolonial guide, healer, and pilgrimage weaver devoted to reconnecting people with ancestral wisdom that lives in the body

ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ The Sari Brown Band, creating a landscape of sounds, words and symbols that open us to healing and deep connection with our inner truth

šŸŖ˜ Sundance Robert DiDomenico , a community drum circle guide with a magical way of creating a space for all to play with sound and rhythm

šŸ«” Menu: Homemade Mexican Tamales with vegan options and a traditional dessert of Dulce de Calabaza

The Healing Feast provides a platform for a diversity of leaders, creators, and visionaries to shape our movement and contribute to collective transformation.

We are now inviting artists, musicians, healers, visionaries, and community weavers of all kinds to apply to be a facilitator in 2027! Please share with your friends and family who would be a good fit as well!

We welcome applications from facilitators with all kinds of gifts to offer: music, movement, art, healing modalities, group facilitation, spiritual leaders, and more. We also welcome people of all ages, racial/ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, religions, perspectives, and abilities. We are excited to work with facilitators whose unique gifts support and resonate with the mission, vision, and values of The Healing Feast.

The Healing Feast financially compensates facilitators for their time and skill, as well as inviting them to enjoy a delicious, nurturing meal and community experience.

The application deadline for the 2027 cycle is December 1, 2026. Priority will be given to applications received by November 1, 2026.

We begin and end with Samhain as earth-based spiritualities do in the Wheel of the Year, a cyclical vision of life, death, and rebirth.

There are big changes moving through The Healing Feast, and this month's event was a channel for launching a new way of being in healing community. Being more grounded on Mother Earth. Listening to her rhythm, her timing, rather than the tick of the clock. Moving at the pace that the slower or younger ones need. Growing like the plants in the garden that surrounded us--not by hard effort, but by allowing. Unfurling.

We gathered on August 14th underneath the soothing trees and hemmed by the prodigal gardens of Shanan Snyder, our gracious host at the Gardens on Maplewood in Ypsilanti. We were surrounded by magical flowers from the farm of Bea Embodied.

Sundance Robert DiDomenico held a sacred drum circle to begin by aligning with the rhythm of the earth.

The food was a culinary journey through everyday Mexican cuisine of ā€œgarden tacosā€ with ingredients fresh from local farms and gardens. We heard from a board member of one of those farms, Jordan Else, about the great work We the People Opportunity Farm is doing.

A time of heart-opening dialogue was interwoven with David LaLoneā€™s raw, real poetry about uprootedness and healing ancestral lines. Nyenyenzi and AliceSun both brought us ancestral wisdom and songs, Yenzi from her East African Bantu heritage, and AliceSun from indigenous culture in the US, including her mother's Powhatan descent and the Anishnabe of this region. AliceSun was joined for a dynamic piano and bass duo set with Mattijane Brooks who has also been a Healing Feast guest artist. Both are members of Sariā€™s band, so we ended the evening with her song of deep inner listening ā€œI Listen to That,ā€ then Sariā€™s dance chant about being in healing relationship with a particular place every day "Like it's our job."

Heartfelt thank you to all our facilitators and volunteers who helped us nurture healing roots in this soil! Sundance Living Waters, David Zollars, Jordan Else, David LaLone, AliceSun, Mattijane Brooks, Nyenyenzi Grace, Shanan Snyder, Janice Leach of Why Not Pie?, Dinah Dewald, Janet Somalinog, Laura Crouch, Paul Miller, Rich Burstall, Seth Trowbridge, Sue Trowbridge, Allie Williams, Dan Lauterbur, Vince Russo, Bea Embodied, Ganun, and Forrest Hejkal.

But seriously, we have so much fun in the kitchen! Today was full of stories, sensual delight, laughter, breathing and blessing together, and omg the taco fillings are such healing, nyommy Mexican kitchen magic. Your heartfelt hostess Sari Brown, priestess of song, dance, and kitchen magic, yours truly, is coming in hot for The Healing Feast - Growing Roots Where We Are! Literally, because I'll be working in the alchemical heat of the kitchen the day before and the day of the event, as usual. And figuratively, because I've been a hot mess all summer dealing with homelessness due to mold making me sick in our home, and fighting for any sense of rootedness at all. And I'm burnt out, but those embers are still glowing.

Yesterday I found myself telling my good friend and Healing Feast collaborator Forrest that I'm dealing amazingly well with burn out. I'm riding the waves, trusting the process, inviting in all the help, and prioritizing my well-being as much as I can. Forrest expressed his hope that soon I will not have to manage it well, but simply NOT be burnt out. I have hope, too, helped by a new flow for the Healing Feast after this event, with a longer break between each. And hiring a kitchen coordinator who can breathe with me in the kitchen and pick up some of the mental and physical labor I've been carrying all by myself. More news on all this soon!

I have already begun some deep healing work over this summer: womb clearing (thanks Meaghan Rosalie!), ancestral reconnection, returning my life energy to the earth, and listening to the trees and river. I am so excited for the dance chant that the Red Cedar River gifted me for this Healing Feast, and also excited to be sharing one of my classic songs about healing with two of the OG amazing bandmates that helped me arrange it for my album - AliceSun and Mattijane Brooks will both be playing I Listen to That with me!

The Healing Feast - Growing Roots Where We Are this Friday is feeling deep resonance with the organization we are benefitting for this event, We the People Opportunity Farm. They are all about creating a space for formerly incarcerated individuals to engage in meaningful employment, build skills and community, and connect with the land. This is one of the best real life examples for healing and reinventing our relationship with the earth to be connected to the particularities of place and build our culture around that.

We are so excited for the work that WTPOF is doing, for the opportunity to share abundance with them, and especially grateful for the synergy of a vegetable donation we use received from them to use in the salsas we will prepare for the feast!

David LaLone shares poems with a candid rawness that are deeply relatable in their particularity. He will be our featured poet for the third time at The Healing Feast - Growing Roots Where We Are and we the weaving of his poetry into this theme will take it to the next level.

David is a pastor, poet, musician, father, and husband, currently serving in ministry at Blissfield and Petersburg United Methodist Churches south of Ann Arbor. He is also its treasurer of The Healing Feast Foundation Board. He has been an MVP over the past year of growing our board and non-profit. His enthusiasm and skills with financial organization, spreadsheets, and fund development have all made it possible to grow into our current formation. He just celebrated his 40th birthday on August 1st and one way he invited people to celebrate with him is to donate to our Healing Circles fundraising campaign!
