Volunteering for the Healing Feast is a full-body experience of authentic community, joy, and being loved as yo bad self. When else can your job description include throwing sacred herb water in someone’s face? (with consent, of course.) We still have several opportunities to volunteer next weekend for The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine.

We’re seeking help both Saturday and Sunday from people who feel called to make kitchen magic with us, set up on the beautiful patch of earth where we’ll hold the event, fulfill meaningful roles during the event, and roll up their sleeves for clean-up (and maybe some extra special herb water blessings). 🌹 💦 Message us if you’re interested!

Jim Leach will weave words of reflection, perspective, and humor on the (divine?) masculine into The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine. His jester’s wisdom in poetic form is exactly what we need to make our menu of creative expression complete. Jim is a tinker, poet painter, and goof who embraces the archetype of the Old Fool. He reminds us to “burn brightly and live at full volume, for this will all be over way too fast.”

Since last fall, Jim and his wife Janice have become a consistent and delightful presence at our gatherings. They have collaborated with the mission of The Healing Feast in various ways as they also embody similar values in the rest of their lives.

A sumptuous, sun-ripened solstice dinner is in order for The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine on 6/21! We are cooking up some grilled shawarma-spiced skewers with meat & veggie or vegan portobello options, accompanied by zesty lemon rice and a smooth hummus sauce to drizzle on top. For dessert, the real star of the show is Padre Strawberry Shortcake!

What is "Padre" Strawberry Shortcake, you may ask? It's strawberry shortcake made on Father's Day, with traditional biscuits and local Michigan strawberries topped with freshly whipped cream. The story is that Father's Day in Michigan is peak strawberry season, and the son of our priestess of kitchen magic, Sari Brown, decided last year that what we're celebrating on the day of the "Padre" (Father in Spanish) is making and eating a "Padre," his word for strawberry shortcake. Plus, in the Mexican Spanish of his father's home, "Padre" is a slang word for "cool." And there is nothing cooler than fresh, in-season strawberry shortcake.

It's been amazing to watch the support pour in for our community of healing connections. We are at day ten of our Healing Circles fundraising campaign, and we have raised $2850 from 12 supporters, with a grand total of $6550 in projected 12-month giving to help us meet our $40,000 annual goal.

I want to give my most heartfelt thank you the following people who have supported us and joined a Healing Circle either by signing up for recurring monthly donations or making a one-time donation of an equivalent level. You are giving me faith in this new social safety net we are weaving!

There is both a transaction fee that you can check or uncheck, and a tip to the GiveButter platform that allows you to adjust the amount or make it $0. GiveButter is a great platform for smaller, fledgling nonprofits like The Healing Feast because of its flexibility with having lower or no costs to us and to our donors. However, we encourage you to support GiveButter if you are able to do so, to help them keep their platform this way!
💛 Our campaign will officially be running through the summer months until August 31st, but the sooner you decide to support us the more momentum we can build toward our goal!

The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine on June 21 will be benefitting The Neutral Zone with 10% of all funds raised. The Neutral Zone has been around since 1998 as a teen center in Ann Arbor, and Sari Brown was there way back in the day joining in their dance nights, then taught a songwriting workshop there at 18. They have continued evolving into the transformative, youth-driven community they are today: a place where youth embrace their power, ignite their creativity, and launch their future to build equity, justice, and collective liberation.

We’re especially excited to benefit The Neutral Zone for this theme of Dancing with the Divine Masculine, as we celebrate all the ways their community empower young people of all genders to embrace healthy expressions of masculinity. 💪🏽🖤🫂

Are you ready to dance this Summer Solstice? I don't care if you are one of those people who "don't dance." Ki5 will get you dancing in your SOUL. Your body just may want to follow suit, but that's up to you.

We are delighted to welcome the musical magic-maker Ki5 Loops back to the role of guest artist at The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine. Ki5, aka Kyler Wilkins, is a live vocal looper, songwriter, and educator who creates full songs and soundscapes using only his voice and beatboxing with the aim of connecting people to themselves, each other, and the universe. His music is made with love for your mind, body, and spirit, and it is the perfect creative nourishment to support the healing connections we make space for at our feasts.

Kyler is on staff at The Neutral Zone, the transformative-youth-driven community center we are benefitting with 10% of proceeds from this event. So you'll also hear from him a little more about the awesome work they do!

Forrest Hejkal is a host at heart. This is what he brings on so many levels to The Healing Feast - Dancing with the Divine Masculine this Summer Solstice.

Performer, poet, event facilitator, community builder, carpenter, and steward of the land on which we gather. Forrest has a gift for creating life-giving, liberating spaces in particular places, and one of the primary places he does that is his family's homestead on the edge of Ann Arbor, hemmed in by wilderness.

As a member of The Healing Feast Board, he has brought so much to our community with his embodiment of the Divine Masculine in earth-based spirituality, in building healing structures and spaces, in the capacity he has cultivated to show up both for the deepest work and and the wildest play.

At the Healing Feast this month, aside from facilitating the space of our encounter, Forrest will be leading us in somatic awareness, meditation, and movement toward freedom.

This candid portrait of my family working in the garden at sunset is also an object lesson in how to trust that what I'm doing makes a difference. Look again at that row of plants to the right of my son:

That's a strawberry patch that my husband started two years ago from just five plants, and it was wildly prolific last year. But now most of the strawberries are being choked out by tall grass. After an hour of work the other night, I had only managed to w**d about 1/10th of the row. It's slow work. And yet that 10% makes a difference. It inches us a little closer toward the abundance that I know is possible: a harvest of luscious, sun-kissed strawberries. Maybe even enough to contribute to our Padre Strawberry Shortcake at the next Healing Feast!

This spring has been intense and the garden has been neglected. The past month has been especially challenging. At the beginning of May, our childcare payments from DHS and our Medicaid insurance were cut off, effectively canceling out all the income I earn as I pay for preschool and healthcare out of pocket.

I had also been sick off and on (but mostly on) since the end of January. During the past month, it just got worse and worse. I finally conceded that our home, which has a mold issue, may be the culprit. I did a trial run of staying elsewhere for a little over a week, and I made a complete recovery during that time. Now our house needs a lot of work to be healthy enough to live in. The owners are unlikely to do any of it, and for various reasons, moving is not a viable option.

Going home to work in our garden on Thursday night was an act of resistance, of hope, of claiming the abundance that I know we can cultivate. Even if I only got through a small percentage of the strawberry patch.

When The Healing Feast board got behind the idea of doing a fundraising campaign for operating expenses that would allow us to raise my salary to a living wage, I knew it was an ambitious and vulnerable endeavor to ask for our full chest of $40,000. The invitation to join Healing Circles represents a beautiful, life-giving web of connections and a stronger social safety net for all of us. And it's a huge ask!

The Healing Circles Fundraising Campaign, just like my home, is currently a glorious strawberry patch full of w**ds. As of today, our tracker on GiveButter shows 5% raised toward our goal. But the goal of $40,000 is for a 12-month total, and when I added up pledged monthly donations, we are already at $5750 for the next 12-month period, which is almost 15% of our goal.

Abundance is already sprouting up in wonderful and unexpected ways. Beneat the tall grass on the other side of the patch, we fished out the first ripe red strawberry of the year and gave it to our son. This whole creation is designed to be abundant. It is all so, so good.
