Already managing anxiety or mood swings? Cannabis use is associated with a worse course of bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder — not a coping tool, a complication.

Products over 10% THC (most of what's sold today) have been linked to the development of psychotic symptoms with regular use. Potency is the part people forget to ask about.

Today, August 31st is Overdose Awareness Day 2026.

The Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) joins communities across the country in remembering the lives lost to overdose and standing alongside individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use.

Overdose Awareness Day is a reminder that every life matters and that recovery is possible. By reducing stigma, educating our community, and showing compassion, we can help save lives and create hope for those who may be struggling.

Together, we can build a community rooted in understanding, support, and prevention. 💜

"Not benign" is the actual research language here — cannabis use is tied to increased risk for serious adverse health events. Not a scare tactic, a direct quote. 🚨

Starting young and using regularly is the combo researchers flag most — earlier onset + persistent use is linked to worse cognitive functioning down the line. Timing matters as much as amount. 🧩

Your early 20s are when your habits set the tone for everything after — career, relationships, independence. Substance use during that window can quietly shape which doors stay open. 🌅

Thank you to everyone who joined the Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) for our Parent Night!

We were honored to hear Cindy Gresham from Haley’s Helpers share her powerful story about her daughter, Haley. Her courage in sharing Haley’s story helps bring awareness to the impact ma*****na can have on our children’s mental health.

We also welcomed The Sober Boyz Podcast from STR8TALK, who brought an honest and important perspective on recovery, substance use, and the power of making positive choices.

We are reminded that prevention starts with conversations, connection, education, and giving parents and young people the tools they need before substance use becomes a problem.

Thank you to Cindy, The Sober Boyz, and everyone who came out, listened, asked questions, and helped make the evening meaningful.
