Big Red Barrel The Big Red Barrel collects and properly disposes of unused, expired and prescription medications, keeping them out of the hands of kids and our environment.

Big Red Barrel will be partnering with Howell Township for their Spring Clean-Up Event!
We will be at the Garbage Man location, 2000 N. Burkhart Rd, Howell Michigan, 48843 from 9am-12pm on Saturday, May 16th, 2026.

We will be collecting sharps and medication.
This is a free service. No questions asked. Put pills in a zip lock container, they can be mixed together. We prefer not to have the medicine container. Keep liquid medications separate. Dump into a zip lock bag with enough paper towel to soak up the liquid. Needles must be the proper disposal container, either purchased from a pharmacy or use a plastic laundry detergent bottle. Reseal the bottle and tape it. Do your part to keep medications from being abused. Do not flush unused medication.

The Big Red Barrel Project is part of Livingston County Community Alliance.

We’re taking a moment to look back at some great memories — like all the years Big Red Barrel has been at the Unite to Face Addiction Michigan (UFAM) rally!

It was an incredible event filled with energy, connection, and a shared commitment to prevention and supporting our community. We’re grateful to have been part of such a meaningful day and to stand alongside others working to make a difference.

We are excited to be back this year! Come see the Big Red Barrel on the steps of the Capitol on May 14th!

Today is DEA National Drug Take-Back Day!

It’s the perfect time to safely dispose of unused or expired medications and help keep our community safe. Improper disposal can lead to misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental harm.

Can’t make it to an event today? No problem — our Big Red Barrel is available year-round for safe, secure medication disposal.

Check out our website: www.drugfreelivingston.com for all locations of our barrels and when we do pop-up events!
