Due to the thunderstorms and lightning in the area, this event is cancelled!

Big Red Barrel will be with Mitchell's Hope from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 for Overdose Awareness Day at 9585 Roberts Road in Gregory Michigan.

We will be collecting sharps and medication.

This is a free service. No questions asked. Put pills in a zip lock container, they can be mixed together. We prefer not to have the medicine container. Keep liquid medications separate. Dump into a zip lock bag with enough paper towel to soak up the liquid. Needles must be the proper disposal container, either purchased from a pharmacy or use a plastic laundry detergent bottle. Reseal the bottle and tape it. Do your part to keep medications from being abused. Do not flush unused medication.

Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

What does prevention actually mean?

Prevention is more than simply telling young people to “say no.” It means giving them the knowledge, skills, support, and positive connections they need before substance use becomes a problem.

When it comes to fentanyl, prevention means:
Understanding the risks and sharing accurate information.
Having honest, age-appropriate conversations with youth.
Helping young people build healthy coping skills and make informed choices.
Increasing protective factors between youth, families, schools, and our community.
Reducing the risk factors that can put young people at greater risk for substance use.

Within the LCCA, prevention is what we do. We work to prevent youth substance use by educating our community, building partnerships, and creating opportunities for young people to make healthy choices.

Know the facts. Start the conversation. Be part of prevention.
