The Larry Prout Jr Courage Fund has been created to aid Mott Hospital patients and their families. Larry Prout Jr. He was also nominated for the C.S.

was born on June 11, 2001 at the University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital. He has endured over 100 surgeries due to spina bifida, cloacal extropy, and a massive omphalocele, as well as many other complex medical diagnosis. With support from his family, friends and community, Larry has been able to live a productive and fulfilling life. Larry is involved with several non-profits by fundrai

sing, public speaking, volunteering and as a board member. Larry has been a community volunteer working hard for many of our local nonprofits raising virtually thousands of dollars since he was 14. Larry has received the Arc Livingston Arc Angel Award, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Pete Schmidt Courage Award, the State of Michigan Livingston County United Way Young Person of Distinction Award, and the United States House of Representatives Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition-- "in recognition of outstanding an invaluable service to the community" award. Mott Children's and Von Voiglander Women's Hospital - Evan Newport Joy Award and the Mott-Von Voigtlander Hospital - Office of Patient Experience Outstanding Volunteer Recognition Award. Larry fights hard to keep a positive attitude. He says the best way is to help others, and to remember that we are all better together, we must all never give up and never lose hope, and every day is a gift. Larry and his family know the hardships of many hospital stays and recoveries at home, and the financial burden this can bring. Because of the help and support Larry and his family have received over the years, the Prout's wanted to give back by helping families with sick children and young adults. The Larry Prout Jr (The Bear) Courage Fund will help with gas, food, utilities, clothes and many other basic necessities, that become hardships when a family is facing the medical crisis of a loved one.

Hey everybody. I'm on my second round of foxfomyosin for a bad infection. I have been struggling. I got a migraine in the night and it was awful. But I'm feeling better now. Please pray I don't have to go to the ER.

I really cheered up today because I got to see my friends from 12 East Mott.

A couple weeks ago and again today, I got to be the surprise guest speaker for the 12 East nurses retreat. Now that it’s over, I can talk about it cuz it's not a secret anymore. My favorite nurse Laura set it all up and we kept the secret!

I was born at Mott and spent the first 6 months of my life there. I was in the, NICU, stable vent unit, moderate care, PICU and 5 West before going to 12 East in the new Mott. I grew up on 5 West and 12 East, and they feel like home to me and also a lot of those nurses at Mott have taken care of me my whole life.

Seeing everybody again today and two weeks ago was so awesome!!!

A lot of the nurses were there during surgeries, infections, and really long hospital stays. They also helped my family a lot over the years. I will always be grateful for all the times they saved me!

I got to tell them thank you and share some of my story. I told them that patients remember more than they probably realize. We remember the people who sat with us, made us laugh, listened to us, and treated us like a person and not just a patient.

Michigan Medicine and Mott have been a huge part of my life since the day I was born!

I also talked a little about being a lifelong Michigan fan and getting drafted through Team IMPACT to the University of Michigan football team with Coach Harbaugh. Still one of the coolest things that ever happened to me!!!!!

It was just really nice seeing so many people who have been part of my entire life. I miss them so much. They always took such great care of me. They are the best! They take care of complex patients like me and are the best nurses ever!

Thank you to all the nurses and staff who took care of me over the years and who now take care of my niece Elise too!!

HONORING BABY ELISE

I wanted to reach out with an update and also to thank you all, as always, for the incredible support to so many families—we truly couldn’t do this work without you.

Over the past couple of months, we had temporarily paused new grant applications through the Larry Prout Jr. Courage Fund due to low funding levels. I’m happy to share that, thanks to incoming donations and early support for our upcoming event, we are now beginning to reopen applications.

As we move forward, we continue to operate under the Larry Prout Jr. Courage Fund, with a special and heartfelt emphasis on honoring our granddaughter, Elise Prout, who spent 7 months receiving lifesaving care at Brandon NICU - Mott Hospital, with the Elise Prout NICU Fund. Both Larry and his niece Elise spent significant portions of their infancy in the NICU at University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children's Hospital—Larry in Holden NICU and Elise in Brandon NICU. Because of that shared experience, many of the families we support come from the NICU, though we do continue to help families with other complex medical needs as well.
