Accent on W**e in Summerville is dedicated to giving back to our community.
From Monday, October 5th, 2026, to Saturday, October 10th, 2026, we will be donating a portion of our sales to support the Bauer family.
"Justice for Christa" is a grassroots movement started by childhood friends and family to honor the legacy of Christa Bauer Gilley, a 38-year-old mother and Summerville, South Carolina native who was murdered in Houston, Texas, in October 2024. The community campaign advocates for judicial accountability, supports her two surviving young children, and raises domestic violence awareness.
The Crime: Christa Gilley—a Clemson University graduate, doctor of physical therapy, and mother—was found unresponsive in her Houston home on October 7, 2024. She was nine weeks pregnant. An autopsy later revealed her cause of death was strangulation, leading to capital murder charges against her husband.
The International Flight: Her husband, Lee Mongerson Gilley, was released on a $1 million bond in Texas. In early May 2026, just weeks before his scheduled murder trial, he cut off his court-ordered GPS ankle monitor and fled the United States using a fraudulent passport.
The Custody Battle: Christa's two young children (ages 3 and 5) have been living in South Carolina under the care of her parents. Following a tumultuous legal back-and-forth in Harris County family court over whether they should be ordered back to Texas, recent June 2026 rulings confirmed the children will remain with their maternal grandparents in South Carolina for the time being.

💜 Look how far Christa’s reach still extends.

We’re two weeks away from the Bauer Power walk-a-thon and halfway through the month long campaign to raise money for Christa’s family. So far, over 375 people have donated or signed up to walk. Seeing the support from coast to coast is an incredible reminder that Christa is so deeply loved and has impacted so many of you.

We cannot put into words how grateful we are for the way this community has shown up for the Bauer family over the last two years. None of it is lost on us. Every donation, share, message, and act of support has meant more than you know.

Two years later, the legal costs continue to grow, and the Bauer family continues to face expenses they never could have imagined. This campaign is one small way we can help carry some of that burden.

We’ve raised $34,777 toward our $100,000 goal. Every dollar raised through this campaign goes directly toward the growing legal costs the family continues to face, including the upcoming custody trial, as they fight to protect Christa’s children and continue seeking justice for Christa and her unborn baby.

Today is October 1st.

The beginning of a month that carries a weight we never asked it to carry.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The month dedicated to bringing awareness to a reality that affects millions of people.

It is also the month Christa and her unborn baby were taken from us in an unspeakable act of violence.

Christa was 38 years old, a mother, a daughter, a friend, a sister, and nine weeks pregnant with her third child.

Her husband, Lee Gilley, has been charged with capital murder in connection with their deaths. While awaiting trial, he cut off his ankle monitor and fled the United States, ultimately making his way to Italy, where he was arrested and is fighting extradition.

Nearly two years later, we are still fighting for justice.

The irony of losing someone we love to the very violence this month is meant to bring awareness to is a double punch in the gut.

Because domestic violence isn’t rare.

Nearly 1 in 4 women in the U.S. has experienced physical violence by an intimate partner. More than 43 million women have experienced intimate-partner sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking. And intimate partners are responsible for approximately 1 in 5 homicides.

These aren’t just statistics.

They are mothers. Daughters. Sisters. Friends. Children. Unborn babies.

So this October, we wear purple for Christa, and for every survivor who is still fighting to be heard.

We say her name.
We tell her story.
We fight for justice.
