A repost from : Ryan Tillman, Founder The older I get, the more I realize that two things can be true at the same time.

You can have compassion for both families.

You can acknowledge the tragedy without agreeing on the verdict.

You can have strong emotions while still respecting the legal process.

This case has generated a lot of opinions. My goal isn’t to tell you what to think, it’s to encourage us to think deeper than the headlines.

(The mother of Cyrus Carmack-Belton says her son’s death was racially motivated. She spoke out during a vigil for Cyrus in Columbia, SC- in front of the spot where he was killed in May 2023.

Rick Chow, a 61-year-old Asian former convenience store owner shot and killed 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton, a Black teenager.

Chow and his son chased Cyrus for more than 100 yards before Chow fired the fatal shot. Investigators said Chow mistakenly believed Cyrus had stolen water bottles from the store, despite surveillance video showing he did not.

Chow’s attorneys say he fired after Cyrus allegedly pointed a gun at Chow’s son during the chase. )
