When the well is broken, school is empty. Why? Because instead of studying, kids are walking to find, and carry water back for their families.

In South Sudan there is no infrastructure, no running water. People are forced to constantly search for shallow wells with stagnant water to survive. It seems unfair. Especially because there IS water in South Sudan; lots of it! It's just buried under hundreds of feet of rock.

So we have partnered with the South Sudanese to drill these wells and also to train up communities to maintain and care for them. Our goal as an organization is not to create dependence, but independence. We want to empower the South Sudanese to thrive in their beautiful new country. And it starts with access to safe water for every village.

No parent would be ok with this.

But this boy climbing down an open well to check for water is the reality for millions in South Sudan.

Without a safe, reliable source, families risk their lives just to find out if there's anything to drink.

That's why Every Village drills clean water wells — giving communities access to water that doesn't require a child to risk their safety to find it.
