Abilene showed up for its veterans, seniors and military families.

Texas Veterans Network partners were on site sharing resources and making connections, including Operation Finally Home, ACP, and Wounded Warrior Project, alongside the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission Veterans Leadership Program, the Texas VLB and the Abilene VetCenter.

Our South Texas Regional Manager, David Archuleta, spent the day at Fort Hood, "The Great Place."

Long lines of vehicles and soldiers moving through the gates after PT, headed to second formation. Then a mini career fair full of soldiers preparing to enter the civilian sector.

In his words: "It was very nostalgic, and my heart is full. It's an honor to help these soldiers get the transition assistance they deserve."

What predicts veterans who thrive after service? A new doctoral study wants your input, and it's open to all veterans.

David White, a doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University and a Tillman Scholar, is researching how social identity and community shape veteran well-being. An 18-year Special Operations veteran with 14 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, David experienced firsthand how much the loss of connection can affect mental health after a 2018 combat injury abruptly ended his career.

Most research focuses on what goes wrong in transition. This study asks a different question: what helps veterans build strong, healthy lives after service? The answers can shape better transition programs and smarter policy, and because well-being is closely tied to su***de risk, this work matters.

A National Plan for Veterans

At the Special Competitive Studies Project AI+ Expo, Combined Arms CEO Mike Hutchings and With Honor Action Co-Founder and CEO Rye Barcott closed a conversation about veteran leadership by pointing to something concrete: the need for a national plan for those who served.

Combined Arms has been engaged with the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee in support of the National Veterans Strategy Act, bipartisan legislation that would direct the federal government to define what veteran success means and better coordinate the many programs veterans rely on today. Barcott called it a strong idea, and said America needs a unified plan for veterans rather than a patchwork of separate systems.

We opened this series with a simple idea, turning conversation into action. A national strategy for veterans is where that leads. Thank you for following along, and for standing with the veterans and military families we serve.
