For more than 10 years, we have been a nonprofit founded and led by veterans; this mission is not only our work, it is our calling. Combined Arms is committed to maintaining a respectful, safe, and constructive online community. We follow platform community guidelines and maintain our own standards for engagement. Houston is a great city for our veterans because our community truly understands the importance of collaboration.

No single organization can provide all the resources a veteran needs. That’s why we created Combined Arms: to bring together our amazing federal, state, and nonprofit partners to help veterans and their families.

Our Executive Director, Mia Garcia, joined Jason Williams with Harris County Veteran Services and Chris Fahey with Black Horse Health on Houston Public Media to discuss what community means and how we come together to connect veterans with the resources they need.

Connecting Veterans with support starts with showing up as a community. The 33rd Houston Stand Down will connect Veterans and military families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with resources, care, and hope. Last year’s event brought together 70+ organizations and welcomed hundreds of Veterans and military families. This year continues that mission of connection and support.

Today is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.

Combined Arms is joining Welcome.us and other organizations to launch Citizen Guides, volunteers matched one-on-one with someone preparing for the citizenship interview.

About 115,000 noncitizen veterans have served honorably without ever completing the naturalization process, and roughly 50,000 green card holders are serving in uniform today. For those who qualify, military service can open a special path to citizenship.

Khalil came to the United States on a Special Immigrant Visa, another path service can open. He now manages the Combined Arms program that helps other Afghan and Iraqi allies build their lives here. The photo is from his own naturalization ceremony.

Service doesn't end. It evolves.

This Thursday, Citizenship Day, Welcome.US and Combined Arms are hosting Honoring Service through Citizenship, a webinar focused on helping members of the military community navigate the path to U.S. citizenship.

An estimated 115,000 foreign-born veterans, along with tens of thousands of active-duty service members and military family members, may be eligible to naturalize. But many may not know they qualify, where to begin, or what resources are available to them.

The webinar will highlight ways veterans can help others in the military community navigate the citizenship process, while also sharing practical information for veterans, active-duty service members and eligible family members who are ready to pursue citizenship themselves.

Twenty-five years ago today.

Sept. 11, 2001 is the reason a generation of Americans raised their right hand. Many of them were in elementary school when it happened and enlisted a decade later anyway.

On Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who went toward the danger, and the service members and military families who carried the two decades that followed.

To every veteran who served in that era: your service did not end when you took off the uniform. Combined Arms exists to connect you to what comes next.
