A Saturday afternoon check in from some of the sweet pups currently in our rescue!

Mogwai, Lola, Jodie, Pongo, and Edna are all doing great! Thanks to your support these five cuties and so many more get a chance at happiness. It doesn’t get much better than that!

We’ve had a few more medical intakes recently, too. So stay tuned to meet them!

A few days ago, we introduced Lola. A 13-year-old girl who was adopted back in 2014 from the local shelter and then surrendered back to the same shelter in 2026. We are happy to update that she is out of the shelter and doing great in her foster home.

Lola’s nails were severely overgrown but have now been trimmed. She has a mass on one leg that we will be getting checked out and biopsied. She goes in today for a senior blood panel and overall additional medical check up considering her age. We learned she loves the company of friends. Hates a kennel but doesn’t mind a playpen. Is mostly deaf but loves to give a good basset howl. And is just the sweetest chill girl.

Once we know a bit more about her medical, Lola will be looking for a forever home. We are in no rush because we want to make sure that wherever she goes next will be the home she spends all of her remaining golden years. Keep an eye on apps if you’re interested!

We have taken in a few older gals over the past few days, so we are making a goal to fundraise $3,000 for our new three intakes (Lola, Noodles, and Cheryl who we will introduce soon).

A glimpse into Mogwai’s first week of rescue.

A week feels like no time at all, but to her I’m sure it has felt like everything. In this week, she’s started to feel comfort. She has received medicated baths and good medication to heal her mange and get rid of fleas. She is finally getting all the cuddles and love she could imagine. She still needs so much time to heal, but she has however long she needs now.

Welcome to the foster fam, Lola. You’re safe now.

Her records at the shelter date back to 2014. She was estimated to be about a year old then, and she was adopted. Now, 12 years later, she was back at that same shelter. We aren’t sure the extent of why other than someone brought her in claiming they had gotten her from previous owners and were surrendering due to “medical reasons.” She is microchipped, but nobody came to claim her. So we did.

Thanks to her fosters, Lola is back in a home. She has a mass on one paw and is heartworm positive. We will get that checked out and get to know her a little more, then she will be available for adoption. And then she deserves someone to give her a home for all her remaining golden years.

Adopt me: our sweet, silly Jodie girl is now accepting adoption applications!

Jodie was brought in to the local city shelter vomiting and barely able to sit up. When the shelter sent out a plea, our rescue stepped right in to help. We rushed her to the hospital where she spent days receiving around-the-clock care. After a scary time of touch and go, she made it. She went to an amazing foster home where she has been thriving.

Jodie is a true hound (mix?) who can be vocal and loves to play and get into trouble. Though she’s cute as can be, she is looking for a patient home who knows what raising a puppy entails. If you think that can be you, please fill out an application now at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt

Important notes: while we are accepting applications now, Jodie will not be able to leave her foster until after June 15. Please only apply if you are ready to bring home a dog at that time. We will close applications if she receives many quickly, so please apply as soon as possible. We are accepting out of state applications on a case by case basis, though local to Houston is prioritized due to age.

Vet update for Mogwai:

Mogwai is estimated to be about 5-6 years old, despite looking like a puppy. She has demodex mange, and potentially some old sarcoptic (scabies) as well. She has a large hookworm infestation and likely tapeworms since she had so many fleas. She has an old ulcer on her eye that is mostly healed. We started treatment for mange and worms as well as antibiotics for her skin, open wounds, and eyes. She will continue to get daily care and a weekly medicated bath. Some good news is she is Heartworm negative!

She’s a total love and is going to heal beautifully. Can’t wait to share more of her journey.

Meet Mogwai. This poor crusty girl is an adult Frenchie (mix?) with mange so bad she is practically hairless. She has scabs and open wounds all over her body likely from scratching herself nonstop. She was covered in fleas. It’s devastating to think about how long she’s been suffering to get to this point.

She’s going to take a bit to heal, but we’ll be here with her every step making sure she gets all the love and proper medical care. Follow along for her healing journey!

A year ago, we saw a plea for a mama dog and her newborn puppies at our local shelter. Her babies were adopted, and Siggi thrived with amazing fosters. Unfortunately, during her time in rescue, we learned she has heart complications. We also learned that she can be picky about playing with other dogs. All of these things made it hard to find her the right home. But thanks to the diligence of our team and one amazing family, SIGGI IS ADOPTED!

Congratulations to Siggi and her new family. You are so deserving, and we are so happy for you.

There aren’t enough words to thank everyone for making this nonprofit a reality. What started as a dream has turned into a community of life-saving souls.
