About ALMAAHH:
Advocates of a Latino Museum of Cultural and Visual Arts & Archive Complex in Houston, Harris County (ALMAAHH) is a new organization dedicated to the creation of a Houston-area cultural and visual arts complex that will showcase, preserve, and expand Latino arts. The complex will support Latino culture and visual arts by creating opportunities to grow locally and nationally as well

as helping to elevate Houston as a national hub of Latino culture. ALMAAHH Mission:
We are uniting to plan and program the building and design of a sustainable, state-of-the-art Museum complex for Latino Art & Culture in Houston, Texas, in partnership with public entities. We aim to ensure the equitable, authentic representation and access to the diverse Latino Culture and communities of Greater Houston. We will do so by creating the intellectual and digital infrastructure to listen, understand, quantify, and map Houston’s Latino Cultural Capital in an inclusive, grass roots way. The built environment, intellectual infrastructure, and digital platform will support, connect and grow Houston’s Latino Art & Culture EcoSystem for the benefit of all Houstonians. ALMAAHH is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization
The ALMAAHH Fund is a Type I Supporting Organization of the Greater Houston Community Foundation

*Special thanks to the Houston Endowment for their $1M in seed funding allowing us to bring this inaugural exhibition to life! Don't forget to tag and use the hashtags below to show your support for local Latinx art in Houston and to help us achieve this important mission!

We wanted to take a moment to look back and highlight two wonderful artists who were selected earlier this year as recipients of the ALMAAHH x FotoFest Meeting Place 2026 Portfolio Review Scholarship: Gabi Magaly () and Tina Hernandez ().
Presented in collaboration with FotoFest, the scholarship supports Latino lens-based artists in participating in The Meeting Place Portfolio Reviews — one of the longest-running and largest international portfolio review programs in the United States, connecting artists with curators, publishers, editors, and arts professionals from around the world.
Gabi Magaly is a Houston-based artist working primarily in photography while also incorporating sculptural installation and embroidery into her practice. Tina Hernandez is a Chicana/Tejana artist whose work explores Mexican heritage, identity, and empowerment through photography, prop-making, and visual storytelling.
We’re excited to continue following their artistic journeys and proud to celebrate their work and accomplishments within Houston’s creative community. Congratulations again to both artists!

A few moments from the unveiling of the 2026 Rooted in Community mural by Jatziri Barron at Finca Tres Robles during this year’s Salsa de Mayo Festival.

The mural reflects themes of community, land, culture, and collective care, adding another meaningful chapter to the evolving story of Finca Tres Robles as a creative and community-rooted space in Houston.

Congratulations again to Jatziri Barron, and thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.

At ALMAAHH’s recent Film Industry Visioning Session, participants described Houston’s Latino film ecosystem as one with incredible talent and momentum, but still lacking stronger connections between education, funding, production, and audience development.

The conversation highlighted a clear need for a more coordinated and sustainable creative infrastructure that can better support filmmakers and production professionals across the city.

As part of continuing these efforts to uplift Houston’s film community, ALMAAHH is proud to support the HAPIE Awards, celebrating outstanding work across Houston’s film and production industries.

We encourage our community to help recognize and amplify Latino creatives by submitting nominations for individuals and projects deserving of visibility and recognition.

📅 Final nomination deadline: May 29
