Friends of the Garland County Library

The Friends of the Garland County Library was incorporated in 1976 as an Arkansas non-profit. We sell donated books and other items to support GCL programs.

Please donate ONLY clean, undamaged books: no textbooks, encyclopedias, oversized books. Thanks! The group's purpose is to increase library services by:

1) raising funds through the sale of donated books, DVDs, and other materials that are available year-round in the library's Back Corner Bookshop (Book Sale Room), and
2) soliciting supporting membership by the public

All of the money raised

goes to the library to fund special programs or purchase materials. Volunteers manage the Back Corner Bookshop (Book Sale Room). They sort, price, and shelve donated books, DVDs, Cds, puzzles, and other items. Their work hours are 830 am to 1100am on Mondays and Thursdays. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.

First Monday Sales for June
Located in the front display case at the Garland County Library, these items are available for purchase this week only:
1) A set of three beautifully illustrated books by or about Frank Baum who wrote “The Wizard of Oz”. Included are a 1956 edition of The Wizard of Oz”, “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus”, and an unopened “The World of Oz” by Allen Eyles. Price: $30
2) Warhammer, The Horus Heresy, gaming book, in mint condition. Price: $15
3) Set of 17 brand new bibles (black and white), 16 are unopened. Print is small. Price: $25
4) A very rare collectible: An original souvenir book from the 1934 Chicago World‘s Fair. Very good condition given its age. Price: $15

Join us in honoring Memorial Day in the Book Sale Room at the Garland County Library.

We have lots of history books, biographies, and DVDs related to military service and experiences. We’ve displayed a few on our window display. All priced $1-$3.

And don’t forget our large inventory of DVDs against the back wall. TV series are also on the window display , $2-5.

Kid’s movies,too, in the Children’s section.

1) Set of 19 Black Stallion books by Walter Farley, 1950s, good condition. Only $5 for the whole set! Located in the glass display case at the front of Garland County Library.
2) SIGNED copy of The Donner Party Chronicles by Frank Mullins, Jr, $25. Beautiful illustrations, very good condition. In glass display case.
3) Inside the Book Sale Room, a cart full of young adult books, each for only 25 cents.

1) Autobiography of Ted Turner, “Call Me Ted”, $2
2) DVDs of TV and streaming series, including True Blood, Kung Fu, The Americans, Poldark, NCIS, Stephen King’s The Stand and more. Priced $2-$5.
3) Recent book releases by authors such as Michael Connelly and James Patterson.

All these items are located in the window bookcase inside the Book Sale Room at the Garland County Library.

1) YANK, weekly Army magazine, British edition, April 25, 1943. This issue has been well loved and is in a bit rough condition, $3
2) Garth Brooks Anthology, The First Five Years, excellent condition, $10
3) Yamakei, color deluxe, two volumes, beautiful photography, very good condition, $5
4) The Million Pound Bank Note short story by Mark Twain, beautiful hard cover with purple ribbon, good condition, some rough edges, $15.
5) Beautiful boxed Gandhi book, very good condition, $25.

This week’s treasures: DVDs of popular and highly rated TV programs, including British mysteries. You’ll find NCIS, Mad Men, Better Call Saul, Inspector Morse, Poldark, DI Ray, and A Touch of Frost. Priced $2-5. Located in the Book Sale Room at Garland County Library, in the bookshelf next to the windows. And don’t forget, we have hundreds of DVDs, both entertainment and instructional videos shelved on the back wall, $2 each.

This week’s treasure for Arkansas history buffs: a two volume set of “Down From The Hills” by Orval Faubus, six term Arkansas governor who is known for trying to block the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Price: $75. Find this is in the glass display cabinet at the front of Garland County Library.
