Did you know that AHIF also works with individuals and their families who are recovering or living with a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI)? đź’š

September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, and we’re taking this opportunity to raise awareness, share resources, and remind individuals and families that they don’t have to navigate life after SCI alone.

AHIF provides free support, resources, advocacy, and opportunities for connection and community engagement for individuals living with traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury across Alabama.

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of the SCI community! đź’š

We are incredibly grateful at Alabama Head Injury Foundation (AHIF) to be invited to partner with Collin Long and his mother, Amy, as they share Collin’s powerful recovery journey through the Long Shot Golf Scramble.

This event is more than a day on the course—it’s a celebration of resilience, hope, and the impact of community support for individuals and families affected by brain injury.

Join us in honoring Collin’s story and helping us continue our mission to serve those in need.

The past two days have been a wonderful opportunity for the AHIF team to come together from across the state for learning, connection, and collaboration! đź’š

Our staff meeting was filled with exceptional speakers, meaningful discussions, shared resources, and new ideas to strengthen the work we do for the individuals and families we serve.

And, of course, we made time for a little fun!
🎨✨ The team enjoyed an evening of painting glassware and creating some beautiful (and unique!) masterpieces.

We’re grateful for the time to learn together, share experiences, and simply enjoy being together as a team. What a great two days! 💚

We are so excited and honored to see the Alabama Head Injury Foundation and our Bright Ideas TBI Camp recognized in this NPR story!

We are always proud when the clients and families we serve here in Alabama receive recognition on a national level. Our Bright Ideas Therapy Camps and recreational camps are programs we are incredibly pleased to offer—and they are made possible by the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters.

Most importantly, we are grateful for the opportunity to create spaces where people living with brain injury can build confidence, connect with others, try new things, and simply have fun. đź’š

A Pennsylvania summer camp helps children who have survived brain injuries. But the future of federal funding for brain injury research, as well as grants to states to help such patients, is in limbo.

We love when our clients and their families stop by AHIF! đź’š

This visit earlier this month was a wonderful follow-up from our recent Samford Bright Ideas Camp. Our client returned to meet with Dr. Carpenter and a UAB Occupational Therapy student to get a device set up to work with his wheelchair.

We love seeing the connections made through BIC continue beyond camp and into the community!

Today we’re celebrating Cynthia, our incredible Intake Specialist!

Cynthia is often the calming voice on the other end of the phone, reaching out to clients and families after a referral and helping them take those first steps with AHIF.

Her compassion, empathy, and ability to provide education and hope make such a meaningful difference. She represents AHIF’s services and programs with warmth and care, making sure every client and family feels supported from the very beginning.

We are so grateful for all that Cynthia brings to AHIF and to the families we serve. Happy Work Anniversary, Cynthia! We’re lucky to have you on our team! 💚
