Family, community, and the impact of a legacy. 🏛️✨On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Bluff Park Lodge #856 had the profound honor of presenting a Grand Lodge Scholarship to Patrick H. Westbrook. This moment was incredibly special for our lodge family. Patrick is the grandson of the late Patrick M. Westbrook—the very brother after whom our annual Bluff Park Community Scholarships (Patrick M. Westbrook Memorial Scholarship) are named. To make the evening even more memorable, Patrick's father, Brother Brian Westbrook, was right there to congratulate his son on carrying forward this beautiful family legacy. The scholarship was proudly presented by Brother Thomas Keeton, a dedicated member of our Group 2 Charitable Outreach Committee.Freemasonry is built on a foundation of family and community support. By investing in our youth, we strive to project a positive vibe, uplift our neighbors, and strengthen the bonds that connect us all here in Bluff Park. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone!

Meet our inaugural member spotlight: Brother Charles Jason Jackson! A 26-year Protective Life IT veteran, he is currently a Product Owner and a Hoover resident (along with his wife Sherice and their bulldog King). In his spare time Jason is a golfer, and vinyl enthusiast and also serves as our 2026/27 Tyler. When asked why he joined Bluff Park 856 (2024), he replied:

“I became a Master Mason to become a better man. Belonging to Bluff Park 856 inspires me to focus on self-improvement. I’m Enlightened by the moral philosophies of free masonry, humbled by the charity of community service, and strengthened by the encouragement and fellowship our brothers share.”

Come see who we are: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, join us for dinner at 6PM.

📐 Ever wondered about the story behind this famous symbol? 🧭If you have driven down Valley Street in Hoover, you have definitely noticed the Square and Compasses displayed on our building. But what does this emblem actually mean to the brothers meeting inside Bluff Park Lodge 856? In Blue Lodge Masonry, these aren’t secret signs—they are simply the tools of ancient stonecutters, used today to teach us how to build a better life, a better character, and a better community. Here is the simple breakdown:

📐 The Square reminds a Mason to “square his actions”. It stands for honesty, morality, and fairness. Think of it as the Golden Rule in tool form—treating our neighbors with justice and virtue.

🧭 The Compasses remind a Mason to “circumscribe his desires”. They serve as a daily reminder to practice self-discipline, keep our passions in check, and live a balanced, well-rounded life.

G The Letter ‘G’ sits right at the center. It represents Geometry—the mathematical order of the world around us—and reminds us of our faith in a Supreme Architect.

At its core, Freemasonry is about taking good men and helping them become even better fathers, grandfathers, brothers, and citizens. We take those lessons out into Hoover by supporting local students with scholarships, helping neighbors, and building a stronger community. 🤝✨

ℹ️ Curious to see what we are all about? You don’t have to guess! Come have dinner with the brothers of Bluff Park 856. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.🍽️ Dinner starts at 6:00 PM and family, friends, and neighbors are always welcome to join us before lodge begins!

📐 The Spy, The Tailor, The Brother: Hercules Mulligan 🇺🇸
You might know him from Broadway, but do you know the real Masonic story of Brother Hercules Mulligan? 🕵️‍♂️🧵Long before the United States was born, Hercules Mulligan was an active member of New York’s Trinity Lodge No. 4—a traditional Blue Lodge. While he was openly taking measurements for British officers' uniforms in his tailoring shop, he was secretly gathering intelligence that twice saved George Washington’s life.Mulligan’s dangerous espionage wasn't just about politics; it was a profound reflection of his Blue Lodge obligations:🤝 Brotherly Love (Loyalty): He risked the gallows to protect his fellow Patriots, proving that brotherhood means standing up for others when the stakes are at their highest.🤲 Relief (Service): True relief means defending your community. Mulligan used his unique position and wealth to serve the birth of American liberty without asking for fame.🔍 Truth (Discretion): As a Master Mason, he understood the power of a secret kept well. His integrity and absolute discretion kept the Continental Army one step ahead of the crown. In American Freemasonry, the Blue Lodge is where we learn to take raw material and shape it into something of lasting value. Brother Hercules Mulligan took those exact lessons out into the world, transforming from a humble tailor into an American hero.Every time a modern Mason steps into a Blue Lodge, they walk the same path of integrity, secrecy, and community dedication that Mulligan walked during the Revolution.💬 Did you know Mulligan was a Mason? Alexander Hamilton died on the 12th of July, 1804. If he had not rowed his boat across the Hudson River from New York City to face Aaron Burr in a fatal gentleman's duel the day before, he might well have achieved the greatness that so many authorities say he had coming to him.
