🧪🐘 ELEPHANT TOOTHPASTE TIME! 🐘🫧

Our Waiākeawaena Elementary scientists are bringing chemistry to life at STARBASE Hawaiʻi with one of our favorite experiments — Elephant Toothpaste! 💥🧪

Students explored how a chemical reaction can rapidly produce a whole lot of foam, while making observations about energy, temperature, and evidence of chemical change along the way.

There’s nothing quite like watching their faces when the reaction takes off! 🤯🫧

Big reactions. Big smiles. BIG STEM! 🚀

🧪✨ Welcome back, Waiākeawaena Elementary! ✨🔬

We’re excited to welcome a new class of young scientists to STARBASE Hawaiʻi and kick off another adventure in STEM! 🚀

Our students jumped right into the action—putting on their safety goggles, working together in the lab, investigating chemical reactions, and exploring the building blocks of matter through hands-on activities. 🧪⚛️

At STARBASE, science isn’t something we just read about—we experiment, investigate, ask questions, and discover! And judging by those smiles, this group is ready for the challenge! 😎

We can’t wait to see what they discover during their STARBASE journey. Welcome to STARBASE Hawaiʻi, Waiākeawaena! 🌺🚀

🎓🤖 Waiākeawaena Elementary wraps up their STARBASE adventure! 🌈🔬

What a way to finish an awesome week of STEM exploration! Our Waiākeawaena students put their skills to the test with a robotics challenge, navigating their robots through the course while working together, problem-solving, and having plenty of fun along the way! 🤖🏁

Students also explored the electromagnetic spectrum, discovering the science behind the different forms of energy all around us, and tackled water filtration, using engineering and science to investigate how we can turn dirty water into cleaner water. 💡🌊🧪

And finally… GRADUATION! 🎓🎉 We are incredibly proud of these young scientists, engineers, designers, and problem solvers for their curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout their STARBASE experience.

A huge mahalo to Waiākeawaena Elementary’s students, teachers, and staff for an amazing week. We hope you leave STARBASE ready to keep asking questions, exploring new ideas, and discovering where STEM can take you! 🚀

Congratulations, STARBASE graduates! 🌟🤙

🌎💨 Now THAT’S how you make science float!

Waiākeawaena Elementary put Bernoulli’s Principle into action at STARBASE Hawaiʻi — using the power of moving air to keep our giant globe floating high above the ground! 🌎⬆️

It may look like magic…but it’s SCIENCE! 🧪💨

Hands-on experiments like this help our students see physics come to life — and sometimes, science is just more fun when you GO BIG! 😎

🌎💨 Science is in the air at STARBASE Hawaiʻi! ⚡️🔌

Waiākeawaena Elementary students put their STEM skills to work exploring Bernoulli’s Principle and taking on the Circuitry Challenge!

💨 Students investigated the science of air pressure and moving fluids, then put Bernoulli’s Principle into action with some larger-than-life demonstrations!

⚡️ At the circuitry stations, our young engineers experimented with electrical components, connections, and problem-solving as they worked through challenges to create functioning circuits.

From floating globes to flowing electrons, it was another awesome day of hands-on discovery, teamwork, and STEM exploration at STARBASE Hawaiʻi! 🌎⚡️🧠

Keep asking questions. Keep experimenting. Keep exploring! 🚀

🥚💥 CRASH TEST TIME! 💥🥚

Waiakeawaena Elementary put their engineering designs to the ultimate test at STARBASE Hawaiʻi — and we caught the action in SLOW MOTION! 🎥⚙️

After designing and building a safety restraint system for Dr. Eggbert, students got to see how their creations performed during a crash. Watching the impact in slow motion gave our young engineers a chance to see forces in action and evaluate whether their designs could keep their very fragile passenger safe! 😬🥚

Design. Build. Test. CRASH! 💥 Evaluate. Redesign.

That’s the Engineering Design Process in action — and sometimes the best science happens one cracked egg at a time! 😂

Great job, Waiakeawaena engineers! 🛠️🌟

⚙️🥚 Engineering Challenge Accepted!

Waiakeawaena Elementary students put their engineering skills to the test at STARBASE Hawaiʻi as they explored the Engineering Design Process with a very important mission: keep Dr. Eggbert safe! 🥚🛠️

Working in teams, students designed and built their own safety restraint systems, then put their creations to the test. Along the way, they had to brainstorm solutions, make design decisions, collaborate, test their ideas, and figure out what they could improve — exactly what real engineers do!

There were plenty of creative designs, thoughtful problem-solving, and a few nervous moments for Dr. Eggbert! 😬🥚

Experiences like this remind us that engineering isn’t just about building something — it’s about thinking, testing, learning, and redesigning.

Way to go, Waiakeawaena! 🌟

🤖 ROBOTICS SEASON IS HERE! 🛠️⚙️

A big shoutout to the Keaʻau Middle School PunaTechs as we kick off another exciting season of the Hawaiʻi Island Robotics League!

It’s awesome to see so many returning PunaTechs, STARBASE Hawaiʻi graduates, and brand-new faces coming together and ready to take on this year’s robotics challenge! 🌟

Over the coming months, these students will put their creativity, engineering, problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance to the test as they design, build, program, test…and probably redesign a few times 😄…their robots.

We can’t wait to see what the PunaTechs create this season. Time to brainstorm, build, compete, and have some fun! 💚🤖

Let’s go PunaTechs! 🚀

🫧💥 DOUBLE. BUBBLE. TROUBLE! 💥🫧

Sometimes science is just better in SLOW MOTION! 😎🔬

Waiākeawaena Elementary students put chemistry into action at STARBASE Hawaiʻi with one of our favorites — Double Bubble Trouble! Watching that reaction grow, bubble, foam, and erupt is pretty awesome at normal speed…but slow-mo makes it even better! 🤯

🧪 Chemicals reacting
🌡️ Energy changing
🫧 Bubbles forming
😁 Scientists having FUN!

This is what hands-on STEM is all about — make a prediction, run the experiment, observe what happens…and enjoy the eruption!
