Halloween can be both fun and educational! This past weekend, HTRC was at the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church's trunk or treat! The Pleasant Ridge Freedom Team gave out information from the Open Door Ministries Human Trafficking Resource Center and Invictus to parents. We also gave out 50 bottles of HTRC labeled water that provided educational information about human trafficking. We are beyond grateful for this opportunity!

According to research from the Samaritan Woman Institute for Shelter Care, the most common perpetrator of familial trafficking is the child’s biological mother.

Sadly, we continue to see more and more cases where mothers are the primary perpetrators in child s*x trafficking, the creation of child s*xual abuse material, and other forms of exploitation and abuse.

Raising awareness of this difficult reality is one step toward protecting children and breaking the cycle of exploitation.

🚨 Stranger danger isn’t enough anymore. Kids need to know about “Tricky People” — individuals who may try to manipulate, deceive, or exploit them.

Teaching children the signs and how to respond gives them the tools to protect themselves, trust their instincts, and speak up if something feels wrong.

Let’s start the conversation early, focus on behavior (not just strangers), and empower our kids to stay safe.

💙 National Son and Daughter Day 💙
Today, we celebrate the joy and love that sons and daughters bring into our lives.

But we also recognize that not every child is safe.
Every year, thousands of sons and daughters are exploited through human trafficking - often by someone they know and trust.

Let today be more than a celebration. Let it be a reminder to protect, educate, and advocate for all children - not just our own.

Know the signs. Start the conversation. Be a safe adult.
Because every child deserves freedom, dignity, and a future.
