This week’s Ambassador Spotlight is Kelly Jones!

Kelly is the owner of Kelly the Notary, serving as a mobile notary public and certified loan signing agent. She has strong ties with the Chamber community, having begun her career with the Chamber of Commerce in DeLand, Florida. Kelly works with banks, lenders, title companies, and attorneys to ensure professional, accurate document signings.

She also co-owns a pet and housesitting business with her daughter, hickorypetsitter.com, which has grown into a trusted local business. Proud to call Hickory home, Kelly is honored to serve as a Chamber of Catawba County Ambassador and support the local business community.

We are excited to share that Yebin Han has joined The Chamber of Catawba County team as our new Partner Events & Experience Manager.

Yebin brings experience in event coordination, relationship management, communications, and partner engagement through her work with Appalachian State University’s Career Development Center and other community-focused organizations. In her previous role as Recruiting Services Manager, she coordinated large-scale career fairs and recruitment events, managed employer relationships, oversaw event logistics, and worked across teams to create strong experiences for employers, students, and attendees.

As Partner Events & Experience Manager, Yebin will lead the planning and ex*****on of Chamber events, manage logistics and relationships, and help ensure our partners, sponsors, and attendees have a great experience.

This week’s Ambassador Spotlight is Dean Pritchett!

Dean Pritchett, owner of Midway Carpet Distributors, has been a dedicated entrepreneur and community member in Hickory since 1983.

Born in Rochester, MN, on December 26, 1960, Dean served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1983 before relocating to Hickory, where he earned an associate degree in Business Administration and Accounting from CVCC. Dean successfully owned and operated Pritchett Construction from 1995 to 2024 before acquiring Midway Carpet in April 2020.

A strong workforce is essential to a strong economy. That's why one of The Chamber's strategic priorities is strengthening Catawba County's talent ecosystem.

Through the Catawba County Talent Strategy, we're working to ensure employers have access to the talent they need while creating opportunities for individuals and families to succeed. This work requires collaboration across business, education, government, and community organizations to address both talent development and talent attraction challenges.

How are we advancing this priority?

✅ Expand career pathways, work-based learning opportunities, and workforce readiness efforts to strengthen our pipeline of homegrown talent

✅ Implement targeted talent marketing initiatives to attract new residents and skilled workers to our region

✅ Advocate for housing, childcare, and quality-of-life investments that support talent attraction and retention

It was a home run of a morning with our Chamber partners. Thank you to everyone who joined us at L.P. Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads ⚾, and to this month's business sponsor VIA Health Partners .

Lindsay Keisler had the opportunity to tour Mennel Milling & Bakery Mix-Newton alongside Executive Director Mary Yount, fellow board members of the Downtown Newton Development Association, and City of Newton officials, including Mayor Jerry Hodge.

The Newton facility employs approximately 120 people and sources 100% of its grain from farmers in North and South Carolina. From flour and corn meal to bakery mixes, Mennel produces ingredients used by major food service brands and found on retail store shelves across the country.

And here's a fun fact: If you've ever enjoyed a biscuit from a certain fast-food restaurant whose name rhymes with "Nojangles," the flour in that buttery, fluffy goodness was milled right here in downtown Newton! 😉

Speaking of biscuits... you always have us at biscuits—especially when they're smothered in gravy. If you're craving one too, you're in luck! Join Mennel Milling Company and Visit Downtown Newton, NC this Friday, June 6, for their annual Biscuit Day celebration in downtown Newton. Check out the graphic for all the details!
