Hats off to Lake Anne Elementary for a fabulous WIMS assembly on Friday!
For their second annual assembly, they offered their 4th, 5th, and 6th graders the following activities:
Visual Impairment
Movement Differences
Color Vision
Asthma
Sensory Detective
Sensory Rules
Dyslexia activities
They added so many wonderful elements to make this a truly spectacular experience for the students, staff and volunteers. Here are some of the ways this team expanded the program:
1. A passport for kids with stickers as they passed through each station.
2. A mechanical brailler for kids to explore at the Visual Impairment station, and brilliant combination of the various VI WIMS activity options.
3. Their PTA bought books for each participating teacher and pulled out specific parts of our morning meeting guide for them.
4. Incorporated our K - 3 activities for use through their library team.
5. They piloted a new element to the color vision activity and adapted the activity to remove the need for laptops.
In addition, they developed beautiful recruiting posters and put up a window display to support the program.
Special shout outs to Principal Jill Stewart for supporting the program, Dana Yasek for elevating the program through her passion for creating the best program for Lake Anne students, and Marissa McHugh for her support with all things tech.
