The Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston is deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton brought immeasurable joy to millions around the world through her extraordinary talent, generous spirit, and genuine love for others. Her passion for literacy and her belief in the power of books inspired millions of children and families through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, creating a legacy that will continue to change lives for generations to come.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and the millions around the world whose lives she touched. She will always be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration. Rest in peace. ❤️📚

We are thrilled to announce that the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston has earned the 2025–2026 Rotary Club Excellence Award — the highest recognition a Rotary club can achieve! This prestigious honor from Rotary International recognizes clubs that achieve meaningful goals, strengthen their membership, serve their communities, and bring Service Above Self to life.

This award represents an incredible year of service, teamwork, compassion, and lives touched. During the 2025–2026 Rotary year, our members made an impact through monthly Food and Hygiene Drives, a Pancake Breakfast for Veterans, the Senior-Senior Prom, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Backpack and School Supply projects benefiting Cornerstones, Hygiene Kits benefiting She Believes In Me, scholarships, youth leadership and Interact programs, book drives, environmental projects, and support for local nonprofits and families in need.

We packed thousands of meals with The Outreach Program, supported LINK Against Hunger, promoted literacy programs and served children, seniors, veterans, and families throughout our communities.

This prestigious Club Excellence Award belongs to every member, officer, board member, committee chair, and community partner who helped make these accomplishments possible. Congratulations to 2025-2026 Club President Arti Agarwal during this award-winning year for her outstanding leadership and dedication.

Together, we are People of Action. Together, we Create Lasting Impact.

A few weeks ago, the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston was proudly recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District (NVSWCD) for its generous support of the 2026 Youth Conservation Camp at Virginia Tech.

This year’s Rotary-supported recipient was Berkeley Ryan, who attended the Youth Conservation Camp July 12–18. At today’s club meeting, Berkeley enthusiastically shared highlights from his experience with fellow Rotarians. One of his favorite activities was fish shocking—a hands-on technique used by fisheries' biologists to temporarily stun fish so they can safely identify, count, measure, and assess the health of fish populations and their aquatic habitats.

The Youth Conservation Camp at Virginia Tech gives high school students immersive, hands-on experiences in conservation, forestry, wildlife management, soil science, and water quality. Through Rotary’s support, deserving students gain valuable knowledge and leadership skills while developing a deeper appreciation for protecting our natural resources.

We are grateful to Berkeley and his mom, Amy, for sharing this wonderful experience with our club.

A special thank-you to Ron Rubin, our Club's Environmental Chair, for his support and encouragement. By investing in young people today, the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston is helping build a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable tomorrow.

Service Above Self in action.

Some Rotary moments are about what we accomplish together. Others remind us of why we serve. At today’s Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston meeting, Club Foundation Chair Jeff Fairfield presented Suzanne Walter with the Paul Harris Fellow Award, recognizing her commitment to Rotary’s mission and her generous support of service.

The Paul Harris Fellow is one of Rotary’s highest recognitions. It honors individuals whose contributions help Rotary turn compassion into action—supporting programs that improve lives, strengthen communities, and create hope around the world.

Every contribution to The Rotary Foundation helps fund projects that address some of the world’s greatest challenges—from clean water and sanitation to education, maternal and child health, peace, and economic opportunity.

That is what makes a Paul Harris Fellow so meaningful. It is not simply about a pin, certificate, or medallion. It is about investing in people and in a better future.

Please join us in congratulating Suzanne! We thank you for demonstrating what Service Above Self truly means.

Your generosity helps Rotary continue to create hope, compassion, and lasting change—one service project and one life at a time, creating a lasting impact!

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, October 10 for the 2026 Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston Walk to End Polio Now.

Saturday, October 10, 2026 • 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Meet: Green Lizard Cycling • 718 Lynn Street, Herndon
What if your morning walk could help change the future of children around the world?

Join the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston for our 2026 Walk to End Polio Now on the W&OD Trail. Rotarians, Interact Club members, families, friends and community members are invited to walk together for one powerful goal: a world where no child ever has to live with polio.

For more than 35 years, Rotary and its global partners have reduced polio cases by more than 99.9% worldwide. But until polio is eradicated everywhere, children remain at risk. Your step—and your donations—can help.

YOUR DONATION GOES 3X AS FAR!
The Gates Foundation matches Rotary's contributions to End Polio Now 2-to-1, up to $50 million per year.
That means:
$25 donation → $75 toward ending polio
$50 donation → $150 toward ending polio
$100 donation → $300 toward ending polio
$500 donation → $1,500 toward End Polio Now

Your support helps fund the critical work needed to eradicate polio—including vaccination, disease surveillance and rapid response to outbreaks—bringing us closer to a polio-free world.

WALK. GIVE. BE PART OF THE MOVEMENT.
Bring your family and friends, wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes, and take a step for children everywhere. Refreshments will be provided!
