This spring, Prickly Pear Land Trust expanded its education programming by partnering with Prickly Pear Elementary School for hands-on learning. This spring, the Grove became an outdoor classroom where students learned about habitat needs, practiced observing the sights and sounds around them, and explored how long everyday items take to decompose.

Spotted on the Trail: A C**t!
A pair of sandhill cranes returns to Prickly Pear Park each year, and this spring they’ve been spotted with a c**t of their own. The young chick is exploring the park under the watchful eye of its mother, and those little legs are surprisingly quick! Like most animals, sandhill cranes can become defensive and sometimes aggressive when they feel their offspring is in a vulnerable position. Please keep a safe distance if you get the chance to meet this family.

Helena C.O.R.E. is hosting their free summer walk series every week from June 16 to August 25. Each walk is led by a local conservation group and offers a one-hour deep dive into the land, history, and ecology of our region.

Join PPLT for the 10th Anniversary of the Sevenmile Creek Conservation Area walk, the first event of the series. We’ll explore two miles of restored creek and see firsthand how the stream has recovered over the past decade. Thank you to every Don't Fence Me In runner who embraced our reusable cup initiative this year and helped reduce race day waste. Together, we're proving that great trail running and environmental stewardship go hand in hand!

Special thanks to Hydrapak for helping us make the race more sustainable and keeping single-use cups out of the landfill.
