The exhibit JM Cooper: Adel Sheep Shearing, Sieben Livestock Company is on display at the Holter Museum of Art, and tomorrow is a great chance to learn more!

Join the Holter Museum of Art for a free curator talk Wednesday, October 21, from 6–7 p.m. to explore the story behind this beautiful collection of photographs.

The exhibit closes October 25 before heading to Sheridan, Wyoming! If you are in Helena and haven't seen it yet, don't miss your chance.

The Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge welcomes around 38,000 visitors each year, but one of its most recognizable features, Tower 7, needed some attention of its own.

After discovering water damage and dry rot in the roof, the Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation used grant funding from The Foundation for Montana History to repair the damage and help preserve this piece of Montana history.

The Yucca Theatre in Hysham is getting a little more protection from the Montana elements, thanks to the Treasure County ’89ers Museum and support from our 2025 grant cycle!

As part of their ongoing efforts to restore and preserve this beautiful historic theatre, the museum used grant funding to repair and fill cracks in the building’s exterior stucco. It wasn’t an easy job. Crews climbed towering ladders to reach the highest parts of the building while battling Montana winds that occasionally brought work to a standstill.

Beyond improving the theatre’s appearance, sealing those cracks helps keep moisture from making its way inside. With a more weather-tight exterior, the Yucca Theatre is better protected and can continue serving the Hysham community for years to come.

We’re proud to support projects like this that help Montana’s historic places remain part of the communities they’ve served for generations.

Grants Manager Sara has been hard at work taking her grant writing workshops across Montana!

Yesterday, she was in Malta to connect with local organizations and share tips, tools, and resources.

Our Executive Director & a Finance Committee member attended a free Grant Writing Workshop today in Malta. Thank to The Foundation for Montana History & Sara Smith! It was illuminating.

A big thank you to the Montana Masonic Museum for hosting our staff for a field trip last week! We always love the opportunity to get out, explore Montana’s history, and learn from the museums and communities doing this work across the state.

We’re also especially grateful to the Montana Masonic Foundation for sponsoring our upcoming Cemetery Symbolism Workshop on October 17 in Helena. We appreciate your support!
