The LCHS is a private, community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides shelter for unwanted and stray animals (primarily dogs and cats) while working to end pet overpopulation, reduce the need for euthanasia, and improve the humane treatment and well-being of companion animals. It serves a population of roughly 70,000 residents in southwestern Montana and a service area covering roughly

5,500 square miles. Since its creation in 1964, LCHS has continued to grow and expand its facilities and programs along with the growth of the community. In an effort to decrease the amount of animals that come through the shelter, we work tirelessly to make sure the pets in our community are vaccinated and spayed and neutered while in our care. LCHS also has a comprehensive foster care program - including day-trips and sleepovers - in order to help meet the needs of all the animals in our care while they wait for their forever homes. We also have multiple specialized personnel who work to socialize, exercise, and train animals in our care, in order to provide the best quality of life for the animals. It’s National Bow Tie Day, and no one wears one better than Goku.

We’ve dressed Goku up in bow ties to help him get noticed, because this handsome boy deserves his moment in the spotlight!

At 4 years old, Goku is a sweet, friendly pup who loves people and has done well with kids. He’s looking for a home where he can feel safe, loved, and part of the family. While he can be a little cautious when meeting other dogs, slow and proper introductions can help him feel more comfortable. We don’t yet know what he thinks about cats.

Goku has the looks, the charm, and the bow ties — now he just needs the right person to see how special he is.

Today, we’re celebrating an incredible milestone: 1,000 adoptions so far this year!

That means 1,000 animals have found loving homes in 2026 and it’s all because of this amazing community.

To everyone who adopted, fostered, donated, volunteered, shared our posts, cheered us on, and believed in our mission: thank you. Your support makes stories like these possible each and every day.

Every adoption represents a fresh start, a second chance, and a life changed forever. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that shows up so wholeheartedly for animals in need.

There’s still time to sign up as a Table Captain for Paws for a Cause! 🐾

We know “Table Captain” can sound a little intimidating, but we promise it’s easy. This is a free, one-hour fundraising luncheon where you simply invite friends, family, coworkers, or fellow animal lovers who might be moved by LCHS’s mission.

You don’t have to ask anyone for donations yourself. We’ll take care of that during the program. Your job is just to bring people together for a meaningful lunch in support of animals in need.

And did we mention lunch is catered by ?

Menu highlights include apricot chipotle glazed chicken, caprese portobello mushrooms, twice baked mashed potatoes, roasted lemon brussels sprouts, huckleberry shortcake, and gluten-free dessert options.

Good food, great company, and a powerful mission. What more could you want?

Nat picked Blueberry because he’s basically the perfect companion—sweet, snuggly, and always ready to hand out kisses.

Blueberry has a lovable, slightly doofy personality and absolutely adores being around people. He’s happiest soaking up attention, cuddling close, and being a very good boy… even if he doesn’t always seem entirely sure what’s going on.

We don’t know his history with other dogs or cats, so slow introductions will be important.

🐾 It’s National Dog Day, and we can’t think of a better girl to celebrate than Zelda!

Zelda is one of those special dogs who might make you work just a little bit for her love—but once you earn it, you’ll be rewarded with happy tippy-tappies, a sweet and silly personality, and that adorable little mustache that makes her look like she’s always wearing a half-smile.

She can be shy with new people, but with a little patience, Zelda blossoms. She’s lived successfully with older kids and has done well with male dogs here at the shelter. She’s even happy to rock a cute outfit when the occasion calls for it.

On National Dog Day, we’d love nothing more than to help this very special girl find the family who sees just how wonderful she is.
