Happy Pet Appreciation Week! 🐾✨
Sure, June 7th to June 13th is *officially* the designated time to shower our pets with love, but let’s be entirely honest for a second… who is actually running the schedule here? 😉
Our pets work a grueling, 365-day-a-year shift. Their demanding daily itinerary includes keeping the floors clear of stray crumbs, acting as unpaid personal space invaders, testing the structural integrity of cardboard boxes, and providing aggressive, loud supervision while we try to use the bathroom in peace. 🐱🐶🐹🦜
So while the calendar says we should dedicate this specific week to celebrating them, we know the truth. Every single day is an exercise in appreciating the absolute chaos, pure joy, and unconditional love they bring into our lives. They don't take days off from being our best friends, so we aren’t taking days off from spoiling them.
Let's use this week to appreciate the appreciation! Use this as your official reminder to hand over an extra treat, schedule an extra scratching session, and accept that your couch belongs to them anyway. 👑❤️

🐾 BIG NEWS FROM PAWS CLAWS AND TALONS FOUNDATION! 🐾
We have officially raised $435 thanks to this incredible community! Because of your generosity, we are officially moving forward with a major milestone for our Morsel Menagerie bakery wing: securing our Cottage Food License! This step unlocks our ability to get our zero-water, fresh vegetable-infused treats out into the world while we keep pushing toward the next big phase.
Looking at our strategic roadmap ,we are tantalizingly close to our next major milestone. We are just $20 away from being able to afford our MN Commercial Feed License. Once we clear that tiny $20 gap, our only remaining funding goals on the current roadmap will be the expanded commercial feed licenses for our three individual specialized recipes, which sit at $100 a piece for a total of $300.
Every single dollar brings us closer to fully launching our circular economy pet initiatives and supporting the animals. Thank you for being the ultimate crew of Chaos Wranglers and building this foundation with us from the roots up!
If you want to help us close that final $20 gap for the state feed license today, drop a donation or share this post to help spread the word. Let's keep this momentum going!

Disaster doesn't care about reptile scales, fluffy tails, or hooves, which is why having a species-specific emergency plan ready before a crisis is a life-saving necessity. Head over to our latest blog post to learn how to build a bulletproof preparedness strategy for every animal in your care, from two ounces to two thousand pounds.

When disaster strikes, chaos doesn’t care if a pet weighs two ounces or two thousand pounds. If an emergency forces an evacuation, leaving animals behind should never be the fallback plan. If…

June is National Microchip Month, making it the perfect time to talk about the absolute best way to permanently lock down your connection with your pet! 🐾
Collars can slip off and tags can fade, but a microchip is a tiny, permanent form of identification that keeps you physically linked to your pet for life. 🔐✨

The Naked Truth:
Microchipping Facts 🔎
A microchip is about the size of a single grain of rice, injected just beneath the loose skin between your pet's shoulder blades. 🌾
The procedure is incredibly quick, taking only a few seconds, and feels just like a standard vaccination. 💉
It does not use a battery or require power, and it never expires. Instead, it relies on passive Radio Frequency Identification technology. When a scanner passes over the area, it activates the chip to reveal a unique registration number. 📡
The most vital piece of the equation happens after insertion. A chip is entirely useless unless it is registered in a national database with your current phone number and address. 📲
If you move or change numbers, updating that registry ensures that your pet can always find their way back into your arms. ❤️

Low-Cost Microchipping Resources 🏷️
Securing this lifetime protection does not have to break the bank. Several fantastic regional organizations specialize in keeping these procedures highly affordable and accessible. 👇

☆Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MN SNAP)
MN SNAP is legendary for offering high-quality, subsidized veterinary services to income-qualified pet owners. 🚐 They regularly offer microchipping during their stationary and mobile clinic dates, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand between you and your pet's safety.
☆The Purple Cat
Operating out of nearby areas like Baldwin and Hudson, Wisconsin, and servicing the greater metro region, The Purple Cat focuses heavily on high-quality, low-cost care specifically tailored for felines. 🐱

They are an incredible resource for getting your cats chipped and registered without a massive financial burden.
Local Twin Cities Veterinary Clinics and Events

While Hastings itself relies primarily on full-service clinics for day-to-day care, nearby rescue networks and local animal control agencies frequently host pop-up clinic events throughout the summer months. Animal Ark, right here in Hastings, is an excellent local touchpoint to monitor for community wellness clinics and low-cost scanning events. 🌳🐕

🐾 June is National Foster a Pet Month! 🐾
Shelters across the country are facing intense capacity challenges, making temporary foster homes more critical than ever. Fostering a pet is an incredibly impactful way to support animal welfare, and it changes lives in ways you might not even realize.
Here are the facts on how pet fostering transforms our communities:
Fostering opens up physical space in crowded shelters, which directly prevents the euthanization of healthy, adoptable animals due to a lack of kennel room. When you foster one animal, you are effectively saving two by freeing up a spot for another rescue in need.
Moving from a loud, frantic shelter environment into a calm household drastically reduces a pet's stress levels. This allows their true personality to shine through, making them much more appealing to potential adopters.
Fosters act as crucial advocates, gathering valuable insights about an animal's daily habits, behavior, and preferences. This direct knowledge ensures a more accurate, successful long-term match when finding their permanent home.
Fostering is entirely flexible, ranging from single-day field trips or weekend getaways to a few weeks or months. Most rescue organizations cover all veterinary medical costs and provide the necessary food, supplies, and training resources, meaning it costs you nothing but your time and care.
If you are looking to make a direct impact right here in our local community, several wonderful organizations within a short drive of Hastings are actively seeking temporary foster homes:
Animal Ark (Located right here in Hastings, MN)
A local staple providing shelter and adoption services, always needing nearby homes to help give animals a peaceful environment while they await adoption.
Last Hope, Inc. (Located in Farmington, MN — approx. 20 miles from Hastings)
A volunteer-led, foster-based rescue that has saved tens of thousands of pets. They cover all training, vet care, and supplies for their foster network.
Ruff Start Rescue (Serving communities throughout the greater metro area)
An expansive network dedicated to rescuing at-risk companion animals, heavily relying on a dedicated web of foster families to achieve their mission.
Whether you can open your home for a weekend or a month, you can be the bridge that leads a rescue animal to their permanent family.

International Hug Your Cat Day couldn't have come at a better time for the Paws Claws and Talons Foundation family, even if it arrived with a side of the sniffles. Our CEO is currently home sick today, but she has found the absolute best silver lining. She has spent the entire day cashing in on endless cuddles with her own trio of Chaos Makers, proving that sometimes the best medicine has whiskers, four paws, and a motor-like purr.
While she is resting up and getting some much-needed feline therapy, it is the perfect moment to talk about why curling up with a kitty is so incredibly good for us. Feline companionship is a massive boost for our health and happiness, and science backs up what cat lovers already know.
The Power of the Purr
That rhythmic, rumbling vibration is more than just a sign of a happy kitty. A cat's purr fluctuates between 20 and 140 Hz, a frequency range known to have therapeutic benefits for human bodies. Sitting with a purring cat can actively lower blood pressure, reduce stress levels, and even help ease muscle tension. It is a built-in, comforting white noise machine that signals to our nervous system that it is safe to relax.
Natural Stress Relievers
In the middle of a chaotic week, spending just ten minutes petting a cat significantly reduces the production of cortisol, our primary stress hormone. At the same time, this quiet interaction triggers a release of oxytocin, the chemical associated with love and bonding. This biochemical shift helps ease feelings of anxiety and loneliness, providing a steady, grounding presence when we are feeling under the weather or overwhelmed.
Cardiovascular Benefits
The soothing routine of caring for and cuddling a feline companion does wonders for the heart. Studies have shown that sharing your life with a cat can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and significantly reduce the likelihood of a stroke. The quiet, low-maintenance companionship they offer acts as a buffer against the daily physical strains of stress.

Having a kitty curled up on your lap is a wonderful reminder to slow down, breathe, and just enjoy the quiet moments.

We are wishing our CEO a speedy recovery and hoping everyone out there gets a chance to share some extra love with their favorite felines today.
