πππππ Poster 06-14-26. More thoroughbreds have come in to lots. A lot of people think horses at feedlots are safe because the Mexican border is currently closed for export for slaughter. However, that is only a temporary stay and horses are still in need of help. The longer horses are at the lots the more they go downhill. We currently don't know if some of these lots are taking horses to auctions and there is still some confusion about the Canadian border and what horses can still be shipped to slaughter there. In addition, there is another dilemma involving the group of 24 horses that came in together recently from the same breeder. 11 were rescued and the remaining 12 were allegedly sold by the lot for Recip mares but it appears that deal fell through and the mares are still there and need help. Beyond the Roses Rescue is fundraising for the remaining 12 so please contact them with any questions concerning those mares.
As you all know, we have been advocating for a long time for an Emergency Fund to be created and funded by the JC and thoroughbred industry to help thoroughbreds caught in the slaughter pipeline. To date, there is no such fund or industry funding provided to help thoroughbreds in this situation. We have also advocated for lifetime tracking and programs put in place to help circumvent thoroughbreds from ending up in the slaughter pipeline in the first place. The JC, BC and others are sitting on millions so there is no excuse that there is no industry aid for thoroughbreds when they are in trouble.
