PA Farm Link is excited to share this learning opportunity: Pastured Poultry Workshop scheduled for August 22 in Mohrsville, PA
Mohrsville, PA; July 1, 2026: Registration is open to the public for a walking tour and workshop at Skyline Pastures farm in Mohrsville, Berks County, PA, on Saturday, August 22 from 9:30 to 11 AM.
Host farmers Charles and Tanya Lafferty raise grass-fed beef, forest-raised pork, and pastured poultry in the open air on this
CJ, a currently serving Army National Guard soldier, credits his years of military service for developing the discipline, planning, and follow-through required to operate a small farm well. By employing deliberate best management practices, the Lafferty family produces the highest quality meats and poultry while conserving the natural resources to provide the best food their land can provide. Rotational grazing, forest management, and farming on a small scale has allowed them to improve soil, support resilience, and improve rather than deplete what nature affords.
Guests will learn about CJโs current Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant funded project to address Blackhead Disease in pastured turkeys through natural practices. Weโll also see the mature silvopastured pork project CJ developed under a previous SARE grant. Poultry farmers will learn why Skyline Pastures uses Suscovich-Style chicken tractors and about other options for differing operations.
Attendees will also visit with the small beef cattle herd on the farm.
CJ has leveraged several grant programs to grow Skyline Pastures in a thoughtful and measured way, and will share insight on accessing funding programs.
This event is open to the public and co-sponsored by the PA Veteran Farming Network with support from the Caroline Frederika Holdship Trust, and support from the NE SARE Farmer Grant program. Registration is open until 5 PM on August 22nd at https://www.pavetfarms.org/workshops.
