Amazing Hampton (and Aberdeen) history!

It’s Throwback Thursday!

Ethel Roberson Stephens (1903–1996) graduated from Ohio State, earned a master's degree at Columbia, and taught at Howard University. She made her mark in Hampton as a consumer advocate.
In 1943, Stephens headed the Consumer Interest Council, a group of women from Hampton, Phoebus, and Yorktown investigating grocery stores in Hampton Roads. The owners were charging too much for staples—like butter and bacon—despite wartime regulations on prices. The group researched the problem and reported it to the Office of Price Administration. As a result, the stores adjusted their prices.
Then and now, Hampton residents use teamwork and community spirit to make the world better.

Thank you to all of our supporters, vendors, volunteers, community members, and cousinssssss that helped to make yesterday’s fish fry one for the books! 👏🏾🐟

We laughed, danced, and ate so good! A huge shoutout to our caterer Randy who made it all possible!

We’ve received so many compliments on how amazing the fish dinners tasted! We can’t wait to see you all again at our next event. ❤️

We are officially ONE DAY AWAY from the fish fry, and we’re getting ready for some good food, good people and even better fellowship! 🙌🏾

Before you pull up, here’s what you need to know:

🌦️ YES, WE’RE STILL ON!
We’re keeping an eye on the weather, but as of now, the fish will be frying and the fellowship will be flowing! Come on out and enjoy the day with us.

💵 CASH IS KING!
If you can, please bring cash. It’s our preferred payment method and will help keep the line moving.

🐟 FRESH FISH TAKES A LITTLE LOVE!
Our hardworking volunteers will be doing their best to get everyone served quickly, but your fish is being cooked FRESH, cousin! So bring a little patience with that appetite. 😂
