The Education Freedom Tax Credit is a private school voucher program, championed by Project 2025 and Besty DeVos, and designed to funnel taxpayer funds into unaccountable K-12 private and religious schools.

These funds should be used to support public schools, not defund them.

We are deeply disappointed to share that SB 277 passed through both the Indiana House and Senate. This bill reduces IDEM’s responsibility to enforce environmental protections, making some safeguards optional instead of required.

We will be monitoring how these reduced regulations impact environmental protections in Indiana to ensure that IDEM continues to protect the Indiana Dunes and the Northwest Indiana region. Our commitment to defending the dunes and safeguarding clean water, healthy ecosystems, and resilient communities remains unwavering.

We are incredibly grateful to the many community members who contacted their legislators and spoke up in defense of strong environmental protections. While the bill ultimately passed, your outreach narrowed the margin and ensured lawmakers understood how deeply our communities care about protecting the Indiana Dunes.
