A few photos of the weasels, gray foxes and coyote pups from today’s big moves!

The 2 weasels were moved into the new outdoor enclosure that Jacob recently completed for his Eagle Scout project. Jacob and his dad, Brian, were able to be here for the move which meant a lot. Jacob had hoped to see the first animals settle into the enclosure he worked so hard to build and today that happened.

Both groups of gray foxes were also moved into the pre-release enclosure. They were immediately excited to explore and spent much of their time running around together. The two “crab trap” babies are a little bigger than our tiny foxes and quickly seemed to take on the role of big brothers showing the younger ones the ropes.

The two coyote pups met each other for the first time today as well. Within seconds, they were licking each other’s faces and acting like they had known each other forever.

I’ll put together some video clips soon so everyone can see how they’re doing and watch them enjoy their new spaces.

This morning, my husband texted me to say that a raccoon had fallen through the ceiling tiles in the office next to his. Shell has a contract with a wildlife control company that handles wildlife issues at the refinery. What was thought to be one adult raccoon hiding behind a refrigerator turned out to be three young babies.

My plans for today already included moving the gray foxes and weasels outside to the pre-release enclosures. That opened up some space inside and gave me the ability to properly quarantine new arrivals, so I offered to take the babies in.

Welcome Prim, Sap, and Cair - all named by the employees and inspired by scheduling tools, work orders, and refinery terminology.

They’re scared, confused and not too sure about any of this yet, but they’re safe.

I’ll share more about them tomorrow.

Over the last several weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to speak at the Amite Rotary Club, the Baton Rouge Master Naturalists meeting and the Hammond Kiwanis Club.

I’m making an effort to become more involved in the community, meet new people and educate the public about wildlife rehabilitation - what we do as rehabilitators, the importance of coexisting with our native wildlife and what people should (and shouldn’t) do when they find an animal in need.

These have all been wonderful experiences and I am so grateful for every opportunity to share my passion for wildlife and the work we do. In August I’ll be speaking at Options and I’m looking forward to connecting with that group as well.

Today I’m sharing an article from last week’s Kiwanis Club meeting that was recently published. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me and shown interest in learning more about Louisiana’s wildlife and the importance of helping protect it.

Ok y’all… I kept a little secret 🤫

About two weeks ago, Rob Masson with Fox 8 News came out to visit us! I was nervous doing the interview (surprise, surprise… when am I not nervous on camera? 😂), but it was such a great experience.

Our two veterinarians, Dr. Akers and Dr. Caillouet, were here, along with some of our amazing transport volunteers — Felicia, Jenny, and Wes. It was wonderful to have them be part of it because wildlife rehab truly takes a village.

The segment aired at 5:30 and will air again at 9:00 tonight!

A huge thank you to everyone who helps make this work possible. Whether you volunteer, transport, donate, share our posts, or simply cheer us on, you’re a part of every success story we have. ❤️🦦🦊

Did anyone happen to see it at 5:30?

Every morning begins with a cleanup crew (that’s me). Apparently the puppy pads are now considered decorative.

The reality of rehab with baby otters… 🦦
Endless laundry, endless cleaning and more p**p than I ever thought possible. Their cage is cleaned 3 times every day. It won't be much longer and they will be moved outside to the new enclosure🎉🤗

The joy of knowing that one day they’ll have their freedom back in the wild, where they belong, makes every bit of it worth it.
