TOWN OF PINE MOUNTAIN TO DEDICATE BALLFIELD IN MEMORY OF ROBERT “FOX” MCGHEE



Aug. 29 ceremony will honor longtime coach, mentor and educator whose influence touched generations of local young people





PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Aug. 18, 2026) — The Town of Pine Mountain will honor the life and legacy of Robert “Fox” McGhee with the official dedication of the Robert “Fox” McGhee Ballfield on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Pine Mountain ballfield, 623 N. Main Ave.



The community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony at 1 p.m., when the ballfield will officially be named in memory of McGhee, a longtime coach, mentor and educator whose commitment to young people and athletics made a lasting impact on Pine Mountain and the surrounding community.



For generations of local athletes, McGhee was more than a coach. Through athletics, he encouraged young people to develop confidence, discipline, teamwork and character -- lessons that extended far beyond the playing field.

“Coach Robert ‘Fox’ McGhee devoted so much of his life to encouraging and mentoring young people,” said Pine Mountain Mayor Mary Ruth Mullins. “His influence can still be seen in the lives of the people he coached and taught. Naming this ballfield in his honor is a lasting way for our community to recognize his service and ensure that his legacy continues for generations to come.”

“Our family is deeply honored by this recognition,” said Tamika Lawton, daughter of Coach McGhee. “Coach McGhee believed in the power of athletics to bring people together and help young people grow in confidence and character. Knowing that future generations will play on a field bearing his name is a tribute our family will always cherish.”

The dedication will include 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, and the unveiling of the Robert “Fox” McGhee Ballfield name.

Community members, former players, students, colleagues, friends and others whose lives were touched by McGhee are encouraged to attend and join the Town of Pine Mountain and the McGhee family in celebrating his contributions to the community.

The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public.

After a summer break, Momentum Taekwondo Plus is returning to the Harris County Community Center!

Taekwondo is a great way for kids to stay active while building confidence, focus, discipline, strength, flexibility, and self-defense skills ; all while having fun!

🏊‍♀️ FALL SWIM LESSONS ARE HERE! 🏊‍♂️

AOK Aquatics is offering swim lessons at Harris County Community Center from August through November!

Our next session starts NEXT WEEK — August 24–27, and we still have spots available!

We’ll have additional sessions in September, October, and November, so there are several opportunities to get your little ones swimming this fall.

We wanted to take a moment to recognize these incredible athletes and congratulate every participant in this year's Special Olympics Swimming Competition!

Your hard work, determination, courage, and sportsmanship are truly inspiring. Every race, every lap, and every finish is something to be proud of, and we're honored to celebrate your accomplishments.

If you haven't had the opportunity to come out and support these amazing athletes, we encourage you to make plans to join us at our next event. Your encouragement and cheers mean more than you know, and we'd love to see our community come together to celebrate these outstanding competitors.

Daehan Court will be closed Tuesday, August 4th and Thursday, August 6th from 8:30 AM–12:00 PM.

Drop-in pickleball will still be available on the Coca-Cola Court during those hours,Pickleball on the Daehan Court will resume after 12:00 PM.

🚨 Lifeguards Wanted! 🚨

The Harris County Community Center is currently accepting applications for lifeguards for the upcoming year. Priority will be given to applicants with weekday availability, especially mornings and afternoons.

Need to get certified?

An ARC Certification Course is scheduled for July 12–14 and will be held if enough participants register. Applicants may be considered for employment after completing the course; however, certification does not guarantee employment. Hiring decisions will be based on availability, reliability, and the staffing needs of the facility.

Registration is now open for our Baton Twirling Camp at Harris County Parks & Recreation! ✨

Students will learn:
• How to twirl
• How to march
• A performance routine

This camp will focus on fundamentals, performance technique, marching and confidence development in a fun and encouraging environment!

Camp Dates:
4th–6th Grade: July 14–17
9:00–11:00 AM

7th–11th Grade: July 28–31
9:00–11:00 AM

Cost:
• $100 Members
• $125 Non-Members

Participants will need:
• A 26” or 28” baton
