We had a great turnout of 21 CERT Members for our Monthly Meeting & Training Session. After an update of our plans for an ARES Simulated Emergency Radio Test that is coming up on October 24th we began our monthly training session.

Since we just conducted our practical medical training for our Basic Training Students last week, we thought it would be a good idea to do the same for our members as a refresher of patient evaluations.
As you can see from the pictures 🤪, we had 4 separate medical stations, and it was a great review just to freshen up our evaluations and remembering that calling 911, scene safety and communications with patients are our main priorities in any medical emergency. Thanks team for a great evening! 💚

On Thursday evening, our students from Class #26 are now beyond the halfway point of their training, as they completed Week #5 of their training. After a review of the procedures for lifting heavy objects with levers and supporting the loads with cribbing, we set up two practical stations for students to have some hands-on training. We also presented how to lift, move or drag patients who are non- ambulatory and the various methods to get them out of any dangerous areas.
Next week, we look forward to a visit from Hamden Police Sargeant Bill May and his canine partner Flip 💙 to learn how they can search for lost or disorientated people and how CERT Members could assist with the search & also provide logistical support.

On Thursday evening, our Students from Class 26 were given the opportunity to speak with & treat team members, who played the part as casualties from injuries, or individuals with a sudden onset of medical concerns.
As you can see from the pictures, our members presented a variety of different scenarios and added a little bit of play-acting to make each station more realistic. 😳 This session is always one of the more rewarding training sessions and is also one of our most entertaining sessions 🙃 as our new students got the chance to meet some of our more seasoned members under some challenging conditions! Our students will get back to some "normal" conditions next week as we present Light Search & Rescue Opertations.!

We had a great turnout tonight for our monthly meeting & training, as we returned from our Summer Schedule of events. Our Guest Speaker Chris Chorney, also a Hamden CERT Member gave us an update of the activities of the "1st Responder Therapy Dogs Program" & how we could become part of the program, adding this to our list of services that we provide.

We reviewed the last 3 activations that we had over the past week and did a quick critique of our successful operations. We ended our training session with a review of our radio protocols, operations and what our plans are for the future, since we have added GMRS Radio Capabilities to our team operations.💚Thank you to our 25 members who came out tonight as it was great to see some of our members who we haven’t seen over the last few months.
