For startups building AI products, ethical considerations can feel like something to address later, once the product is stable, growth is underway, and key milestones have been met.

But Ikigai Labs co-founder Devavrat Shah believes speed and responsibility aren’t at odds. In fact, both are essential to building products that earn and keep people’s trust.

We spoke with Devarat about creating an AI Ethics Council, designing systems with human oversight in mind, and why investing in responsible AI practices now can help organizations navigate what’s ahead.

📸 A few snapshots from in Los Angeles!

Our President & CEO, Phil Weilerstein, and Director of Higher Education Ecosystems, Mike Brizek, spent the week connecting with inventors, researchers, and I&E leaders and exploring what’s next for the discovery ecosystem.

As a proud sponsor of the conference, we were also honored to have Phil moderate a fireside chat with David Dolby, Chief Executive Officer of Dolby Family Ventures, and Robert Lemelson, Board President of The Lemelson Foundation.

We’re feeling inspired and energized by the passion and creativity that make the National Academy of Inventors community so special.

🌊 If U.S. coastal counties were their own country, they would rank as the world’s third-largest economy, behind only the United States and China.

And the blue economy reaches far beyond the shoreline. From trade and energy to food systems and resilience, ocean-connected industries are shaping how we live, work, and grow.

In our latest blog post, we explore how startups like Aloft Systems, VesselOps, FishLAT (Blue Latitudes, LLC), Mira Intel, Pittsburgh Coastal Energy, Sitkana, Dirigo Sea Farm, Astraeus Ocean Systems, and Sandbar Oyster Company are turning ocean innovation into real-world impact

Driving systemic resilience across global agricultural ecosystems 🌱

We recently wrapped up the M4D Open Innovation Challenge Bootcamp—the first stage of an initiative supporting growth-stage enterprises working to strengthen resilience in rural communities around the world.

Twenty-two teams completed the bootcamp and are advancing solutions across four core focus areas:
🌾 Insurance Solutions for Resilient Food Systems
🧱 Reducing the Drivers of Fragility
🛜 Digital Extension for Accountable Service Delivery
🌽 Agroecology for Productive, Climate-Resilient Systems

During the three-day virtual experience, participants explored strategic topics, strengthened connections to M4D Alliance Partners, and exchanged insights.

🌐 Thank you to our M4D consortium members and partners Asian Development Bank, IDB Lab, ESA - European Space Agency, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), CGIAR, EIIS - European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability, and the International Innovation Hub (IIH)—for helping make this possible.
