ICYMI: From the UMass Connections Magazine - “FROM FIRST-YEAR PLEDGES TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS” - a feature of our founding Chapter Hermana Cyndy Escribano and her husband.

“Cynthia and Jose Escribano ’00 met 20 years ago during their first year at UMass. The two clicked over their shared involvement with student organizations: Jose founded the university’s first Latino fraternity, and Cynthia cofounded the university’s first Latina sorority. Both students held a love for the advancement of their community, stemming from their own experiences as children in low-income households.”

On April 4, 1998, two illustrious women - Arline Price and Cyndy López - chartered the Iota Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. We are grateful for their vision of brining a lifetime network of women to western Massachusetts.

On April 4, 1998, two illustrious women of strength and character - Arline and Cyndy - fulfilled a dream of establishing the first Latina-based, and not exclusive, Sorority of the campus of UMass. The new Sorority filled a need for Latinas and other women of color looking for a lifetime network of women dedicated to themselves and their communities; and created a pathway for other MGOs to gain access onto campus.

Congratulation to the FIC at North Carolina Central University!!!! Lambda Pi Chis making History -- NCCU is the Sorority's first chapter at an HBCU and it is NCCU's first Latina Based, and not exclusive, sorority.

It was a long journey and we’d like to welcome our first HBCU chapter at NCCU.
